Event Description

This is #12! We missed last year, but let's hope we can all be back together again to consume food and make merry!

We are going back to Sandy Beach in Rio Vista, CA. This is our annual practice run and food fest  before Thanksgiving. Reserve sites soon as they may go fast if the sport fishermen/women come back this year.

It's a pot-luck, and I'll be roasting a turkey on-site. Electrical outlets will be available for people with hot pots and such,

Party Central will be at site #4o. Bring food, wine, and wood (although wood may also be available on-site).

As usual, I'll share my spot with another camper, and encourage you to to the same.

My plans have changed and I will not be able to attend this year's fest after all. That means that Site #42 is up for grabs before I return it to the reservation pool. Please contact me if you are interested in taking over my reservation ($77.00 for two nights). I will provide a copy of the reservation confirmation.

JLT, this means I am indeed flipping you the bird, or to someone else. I will not be the keeper of the bird this year. Turkey duty will have to go to someone new!

Any takers?

Seeing no takers for my campsite, I have cancelled my reservation and thrown it back into the pool. Campsite reservations need to be made two weeks in advance, so there is still time for someone to snatch it up. Carry on!

Hi All, I recently bought a turkey fryer for another purpose, just needed a propane burner to brew beer and make mead really, but now I have one.

1) Does anyone have reservations to or about a fried turkey?

2) Does anyone experience frying a turkey?

If the idea of a fried turkey holds moisture (pun) with this group I'm happy to bring it along, yet I claim no expertise. :)

Option three is doing a turkey in a smoker, which I do have experience with, however it's low heat so it takes quite a while and plenty of attention.

We used to deep-fry the turkey, but found that the investment in peanut oil and propane was far greater than a half a bag of charcoal, and many people thought it tasted better on the Weber grill.

If we want to do that, though, please chime in. The guy who ran the deep fryer is not currently active (please come back, Joel!) so any expertise will have to come from somebody else.

You make beer and mead, too? We've got to have a talk, and share some samples.
