Event Description

This is #13! It's time to be back together again to consume food and make merry!

We are going back to Sandy Beach in Rio Vista, CA. This is our annual practice run and food fest  before Thanksgiving. Reserve sites soon as they may go fast if the sport fishermen/women come back this year.

It's a pot-luck, and I'll be roasting a turkey on-site. Electrical outlets will be available for people with hot pots and such,

Party Central will be at site #4. Bring food, wine, and wood (although wood may also be available on-site).

Musical instruments are always welcome, particularly if accompanied by musicians.

As usual, I'll share my spot with another camper, and encourage you to to the same.

A few more things: the reservation section of the park's web site is a bit dodgy right now, and senior discounts aren't on the menu there. If you qualify, go ahead and reserve your spot at the going rate, and make contact with the park by phone to arrange a refund of part of the fee. The point is to grab your spot first, and settle the bill later.

The second thing: Note that all reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance of the date, and no "first-come-first-served" sites are provided anymore. But if you're late, look for the people willing to share a spot and hitch up with them.

Third, all sites have electricity FOR FREE. Bring your electric heaters if you think you need them. (If you don't have one and need one, let me know and I'll bring one for you.)

Brett made a little video about what kind of adapter you need if you want to use the AC outlets that are at every site (FOR FREE!). Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOF7aCUfwZ0

Lastly, be aware that there are wild critters (raccoons, feral cats, etc.) that will go into any open camper that you're not around. So be sure to keep your doors closed.

I just found out I have to work that weekend now so Randy and Melissa can have my spot with John if that works for all involved....

that works for me. They already know what a crazy guy I am.

Sounds great! We're happy to share with you, John.

I have to put in a shout-out now for volunteers to provide the turkey. Westywoman, Regis, and the Marlowes have done this in the past, but none of them will be with us this year. I'll reimburse you for the cost, but I'm no good at preparing it, just cooking it. Anybody willing to do this?

There may be a shortage of turkeys. I might have extra ham, let me know if I should double up on porky!

Comment by John LaTorre on November 3, 2022 at 2:30pm

I've heard that turkeys will probably still be available, but at a higher price. As I said before, I'll pay for it if need be, and maybe pass the hat.

Unfortunately some family issues will prevent me from joining you all this Thanksgiving.  Really hate to cancel, this is my favorite camp out :(

Jane Lindsey is still coming and will have my site.  Hope you have a very nice time!!

Not quite true.  That Regis guy is coming.  Sorry.  He drives a Chevy though.

I'll bring the Bird.  If memory serves, to fit the Weber, max weight is 13#?

Not much prep involved.  Taking care of the thawing and keep it cold until it hits the grill is about all there is to it.

We'll miss you, Kris. I'll have to improvise another dinner bell now that the triangle will be awol. (And we'll miss your spuds, too.)

Regis, I'm glad to see you're back on board and that you'll give me the bird. I think that we've done 12# birds in the past, give or take a pound. If Karla and Scott are bringing porky stuff, we could probably go smaller.

And I'm sure that there's a levee around that you could drive your Chevy to. Just kidding! Your beast is as welcome as any VW.

And Regis, don't forget to pull the package of giblet things from the cavity as it thaws. That was a lesson learned one year early on!
