Event Description

Join us on 4/20 day!

We will be camping again at Lake Solano County Park campground, which is technically in Winters, but somewhat closer to Vacaville.

You'll need to try and reserve a site for yourself (and maybe your pal) in the range of sites from #39 to 45. That's the main VW area.

If those run out, then consider snagging sites 8,9,10 or 11.

PLEASE SHARE YOUR SITE. Or don't. No worries.

This campground is easy to get to, has a swell nature center, fishing opportunities and has unabashed roaming peacocks.

Saturday night will feature PANTRY-RAID CHILI!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Important notes: PLEASE READ!

(1.) This campground LOCKS ITS GATES at 9:00 pm. If you do not arrive before they lock the gates, you will be camping outside the gate until the following morning.

(2.) Although this event occurs on 4/20 day, it must be pointed out that all Solano County Campgrounds are smoke-free and they're quite serious about that.

Discretion is nine-tenths of the law.

PANTRY RAID CHILI INSTRUCTIONS:

Look in your pantry. Grab only *ONE* 14 oz. (or so) can that matches the description on the list below.

Then, bring that can (along with a bowl and spoon for yourself) to the camp out. We will add the contents of your contribution to a base of beef and onions.

PANTRY RAID CHILI CONTRIBUTION OPTIONS:

Bring along one 14 oz. can of any of the things listed below:

Pinto beans
Red Kidney beans
White beans
Navy beans
Piquinto beans
Diced tomatoes
Diced tomatoes with Italian spices
Diced tomatoes with Jalapeños.
Crushed tomatoes with Eye of Newt
Chopped tomatoes
Chili con carne
Chili with beans
Chili without beans
Ranch Style (tm) brand beans of any variety.

Please do NOT bring Black beans.

Please do NOT bring Garbanzo beans.

If bringing a can won’t work for you, then bring a loaf of pre-made Garlic bread or a scrumptious dessert. Or a bottle of wine. We like wine. Or firewood. We like that too. If that won’t work either, then just bring yourself, a bowl, a spoon and an appetite.

If we don't get that same fantastic weather this year (which has been a wet one), I would be happy to bring the now-repaired Tent of Doom. But I'm not sure there'd be a place with enough space to pitch it. Joe?

Comment by Joe on March 5, 2019 at 1:39pm

I don't think there is enough room for the TOD.

By April 19th, there will undoubtedly be spectacular weather.

(Not necessarily good, but spectacular.)

Thank you Kampin’ King! We will see you there!

There is a very large open grassy area diagonally across the road from sites 39-45 in the direction of the bathrooms where there would be more than enough room for the TOD. Last year folks were sitting in in their camp chairs and playing with their dogs in that area.

I don't remember if there's a firepit there. But I have a portable firepit we could set up, if the rangers allow it.

Site 39 might work. Fire pit would not necessarily be centered but there is open space at that site. That's where I camped last year. And, no Joe, I am not volunteering your site.

If the Scotch was any good, you probably wouldn't remember...

Comment by Richard von Bristol on March 13, 2019 at 7:44pm

I think the Scotch while it lasted was Auchentoshan. Don't ask me how to pronounce that, unless you are drunk and I am too. The grassy area opposite that site (marked X) might also be good for TOD, if it doesn't slope too steeply and if the rangers allow it.

4/20 weekend coincides with the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival. Here's a retouched shot from last year:
