Event Description

Let's get into condition for Thanksgiving with our third (or is it fourth?) Annual Thanksgiving Feed. This year we'll be at Del Valle, where it maybe won't rain so much. We'll provide a turkey, but bring whatever side dishes you want for the Saturday Potluck under the Tent of Doom.

We're in!  Is time yet to start discussing food?  I was thinking I'd bring a bunch of appetizers for the early afternoon  Dips/spreads/cheese etc.  We'll just plan on sharing a site with someone.

Food?

Um, I guess we should discuss it. Melissa, are you still up for frying a turkey? If so, I'll let you buy it and reimburse you, since you know what size fits into the fryer. But if you're not doing the turkey, I'll take care of it and bring the Weber.

I'll be doing a side dish, probably either my usual rice or some "salt potatoes" (an upstate New York speciality) if I can get the right kind of spuds.

I'm not "assigning" dishes to people. Instead, I'll let you post what you're bringing, and trust that others will take their cues from that so we don't end up with fifteen people bringing salad....

I don't own a deep fryer, so unless someone commits to bringing it, I support the idea of the weber! Lets do something new. I am willing however to still provide the turkey and inject it or marinade ahead of time, your call John. I'd also be happy to provide a vegetarian main dish alternative.

I see it but it is a soft commitment. I like JLT 's hard commitment, personally. Just saying'. If Kris can firm that up, I'm all for it! And I'll be back in the injecting business if that's what y'all want. Or not. I can do the veggie option in the hopes of enticing Werner and others to join us.

I will have a turkey fryer & full propane bottle  there.  If some one can bring the oil and the turkey, we will have fried turkey.  If someone also would like to do a weber one as well, I'm sure it won't go to waste.

I was hoping Kris would chime in . . . I like John's idea, and the veggie option; Um, I'm not a big fan of the tofurkey, but we'll never starve, that's for sure! :-)

I hereby charge Kris with the duty of bringing the fryer and Westywoman with the duty of providing and preparing the turkey, because I don't know nothin' about preparing no turkeys.  But if Kris tells me how much oil to get, and what kind, I can bring that.

JLT: in the past, Joel bought the "erle" (peanut) and it was a hefty 30 bux. So, whatever kind The Frymeister (Kris) recommends, we'll chip in a dead non-president ($10, Hamilton) for the "erle" and we'll bring a starchy side dish for the potluck.
