Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park (IGR) is located in the Sierra Nevada foothills 12 miles east of Jackson, CA. The park nestles in a little valley 2,400 feet above sea level with open meadows and large valley oaks that once provided the Native Americans of this area with an ample supply of acorns. There is a museum and Native American village here to tour. Several easyish nature trails provide views of the park and wildlife.

I stop for lunch at Lodi Brewing. They have a good flank steak salad.

Breaks the trip up.

If yer a meat hound, stop at Swingle's meats in Jackson. They are famous locally for their marinated Tri-Tips.

I got stung by a bee there back in 1993 or so, camping in my first Westy. Haven't been back since, so I am way overdue. I reserved Site 8. Thanks for putting this on the calendar, Ralph! I do recall some slopey sites, so definitely bring your leveling blocks to this one. Lodi Brewing sounds like a great stop.

I would much rather be here celebrating the vernal equinox with you folks than out on the road for St. Patrick's Day with all the drunks. We will have sprung forward the weekend before, so the evenings will be lighter later. Bonus.

Hopefully we'll have fine weather like this week.
