Event Description

We can't do Finnon this Fall, so we're moving the fest to Turtle Rock. It's our first time with this site, so we'll see how it works for us.

If the fire danger is high, we won't be allowed to have a campfire. If it's not, campfires are allowed and the camp hosts sell firewood for $6 a bundle.

If there's public sentiment for a potluck on Saturday, we can do that, too.

Where is Turtle Rock, and can you describe it a little..........

It's near Markleeville, in the Sierras. The website has most of the information you need.

The campground is fairly developed, with flush privies, showers, etc. Tall pines, which don't give much shade, IIRC, but we'll have the sunshade (aka Tent of Doom) so we'll be OK.

Since we haven't used this site before, we'll have to see how it works out, but it should be fine.

Well, folks, I'm planning to be out of here by ten o'clock tomorrow, which means that I'll be at the campsite around one or so.

I'm willing to spend another night up there if that's what people want. If you're including that in your plans, please give e a call today or tomorrow morning at my home phone (916-457-2321). I'll have my cell phone (916-871-6637) with me tomorrow, but I don't know what sort of coverage Sprint has up in that neck of the woods.

I'll see y'all there!

We'll be think we'll be there around 6pm or so on Friday. We're planning to stay 2 nights and head home Sunday. We'll probably be doing some geocaching with the kids in the area, if any of you guys are into that.

Well? How was it?

It was good. We had a little rain on Saturday, but otherwise the weather was mild and cool. My only objection to using the site more often is its distance ... a good three or four hours from Sacramento (hard to tell, because of construction delays we experienced) and even more from the Bay area. But I wouldn't mind using it once in a while.  I also stopped by Indian Springs on the way back, but all the camp hosts were out on errands, so I didn't get to talk to them about the future of that site.
