Event Description

Train Spotting will return in 2013. We will be going back to the Feather River Canyon-Hallsted Campground in the Plumas National Forest.  Hallsted has been refurbished and "improved" with new bathrooms with showers (!), a second path to the river, 7 sites now have electric hookups, sites are shifted around, there are new site furnishings, etc. There is also one pull-through site for a large RV. It sounds really nice but will be different from the forgotten little campground we are used to. Reservations now available at:

http://www.recreation.gov/welcome.do

The Historic Feather River railroad route runs on the opposite side of the river from the campground. Trains climb and descend the grade at all hours-you will be falling asleep to the rumble of the diesel engines and the squeal of steel wheels on the tracks. If you have never driven through the Feather River Canyon, it is a natural and cultural resource treat!

Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to camp out with y'all due to work related obligations.....

However, I will be in Quincy on business tomorrow, and hope to stop by and visit in the evening...

The hell with it!!! Think I will roll in tomorrow night!! What better way to test the new headlights??  Don't know what to bring for potluck  but have a camp chef oven for any one who wants to use it

Brain...it's summer!  Did they forget to lay you off?  Glad we'll see you for a bit anyway! Shelby

Please disregard my last comment. That was a bottle of wine talking. I still might come Saturday. Like I said if I am not there by 2 then feel free to have my spot

Hello All,

I ran into a problem with a wheel bearing so won't be able to make it up.  Space 4 is paid for by me -- werner schink and will be open to anyone wanting to use it.

Sorry to miss getting together -- i'd been planning on it for quite a while.

Reading glasses make it much easier.  Didja ever read that teensy type on the prescription paperwork?  Y'all really should if you take stuff that may be "questionable"

Like they say on TV, "Ask your doctor" then they tell you "may cause dryness of mouth, falling hair, severe regrets, incomprehensible mumbling, faintness of heart, blurred vision, the colrymobblies, and sudden death".  So in my first encounter with 100 plus this year, I detected the onset of the colrymobblies Friday whilst helping with a new 60yr olds birthday BBQ bit.  It was unseasonably wahm so I shaded out and cooled down.  Mo Bettah!  Settin up for Saturday to the Keddy Wye, I had a more threatening bout with the colrymobblies, got dizzier than a toad on a hot street, drank lots of water and sat in the AC for a while, now no longer just fashionably tardy, I lept back into the fire, got waaay dizzy and banged my pate on a syncro door part.  Oooch! Then I fetch the reading weapons and read the 4pt type on the prescription paperwork...undt ZO!  There it was.."may cause drowsiness, dizziness lightheadedness, fainting, or blurred vision...hot weather, exercise or fever may increase these effects ... DO NOT DRIVE OR PERFORM OTHER POSSIBLY UNSAFE TASKS ...Sit or lie down at the first sign of any of these effects..."  Nah, they caint mean ME, the formerly invincible Cane Rattler.  Hmmm...three score and ten has it's side effects that the geezers try to ignore, often at our peril.  No I dint choke on a mudbug in spite of the picture, I took the weasly route and returned to that shady spot under my sunny rock and put the chili meat back in the freezer and put an ice pack thingy on my bashed pate and whined unmercifully about missing the train spotting gathering and conviviality, the collection of fine machinery, less fine machinery, antique machinery, fine lanterns, LaTorre's woodwork, Westywomans laughter, Stephan's cheer, Bill and dandydog, you'all know the rest better than I do.  So read the fine print!  Use glasses so you don't miss the hidden meanings.  This whine will be emailed as a warning to others, just in case.

I had a talking bottle of wine at Live Oak.  Maybe two.

Here's an attempt at linking a photobucket slideshow of TS-4.   I really need to practice taking people pictures.  Maybe next time.

It was hot, hot, hot.  Sunday morning I snuck out with the 6am train.  Heard a few of you snoring away.  Went into Quincy to gas up the back the way I came.

Four hours up and four hours back.  Did a bit under 19 mpg.  Still getting used to the newer rig.

Glad everyone had fun...we will be there next year! Although we were camping in Truckee because we did not want to camp in 100+ temps, I found out this weekend that both the rain fly and the pop top insulation from Fanchers helps cut down the interior temps in the van when it is parked in partial sun. Ditto for the Go Westy sun shade that covers drivers die window, windshield, and passenger side window. It was around 90 yesterday in Truckee and the van stayed relatively cool:)

We had a Wonderful Time again at Train Spotting! Even for the short time we were there.  Thanks everyone for making this event such a fun time :)

Another excellent campout!  Sorry I missed saying goodbye to some of you, but I had to get an early start home.  I kinda figured it might get windy, and boy howdy was it ever....I almost ended up in the Carquinez Strait!  We really do have such a wonderful group of folks, we truly are a Camper Family.  Big Thank You to Westywoman for getting this all together, and to everyone else who make these campouts so special.
