4-7-13 update: I just confirmed with Ranger Chris that we are all set and a go for this year. He's excited to host us once again.

NEW THIS YEAR:
We are announcing the "Big Blue's Adventurer Award".

It's easy. This year, we'll note the miles on your bus in a spreadsheet. Next year, in 2015, when you come back to Bus City, we'll note the miles again. The one with the most miles wins each year.

Also Schoolhouse owns 30 acres across the street and a private beach just for the campground. It's just a five minute walk down the river trail. So bring your swim suits!

I was really looking forward to meeting you too.  Thanks for the recommendation.  GEX charges a 20% "Restocking Fee" if I do get a refund. .. There is not enough liquor in all the land.

Tre, I hang with Bob and Joy and the red wagen. I wish you would have checked with us before you bought your motor. I was hoping to see and party with you. See you at a Art car function.

Tre,  try  Samba.com classifieds. You could tow your van  to Buscity.

Hi Gene!!!!  I wish I would have known. The VW guys up north swear by GEX engines and my mechanic had heard nothing but good things about them, I trust him.  The Bub Lab in Berkeley were the only guys that worked on her years ago, but they started putting Subaru engines in VW bus's and swear by them and I thought that was kinda weird.  Who knows.  I'll get this sorted out, I'm just super bummed I'll miss this VW Bus Gathering in the Redwoods.  Hopefully next year my Leopard Lounge Bus will be there and running like new.  I bet everyone here has a Bus story.   This is just expensive and heartbreaking.

I have a hard time believing anyone who likes GEX unless they are in cahoots... time to find new peeps to trust, you have the proof. Suby's are cool but any swap you have to be wary of Cali smog laws.

I don't want to get far off topic since this is a camping web site, but AVP out of Sacto is about as assembly line as I'd want to get.

There are two repair shops that I deal with and I can ask them of their opinion for long blocks.  Lemme know.  I'll reply through PM.

Just re-read my last post, Apologies if my remarks came off a bit harsh... been very high strung with the selling of my home, moving into tiny trailer and job front like a breakfast bread... toast :P

Good Morning Tre'Taylor,

I just put a 2.3 liter Go Westy Motor in my 85 bus and am thrilled with it but a word of caution, if you are going with a bigger motor you need to consider the added strain on the transmission, I learned the hard way like we all do with these vehicles when my transmission blew up on the freeway shifiting into 2nd on its own at 65 mph. Thank God for the strong motor. I replaced the tranny and put in a transmission cooler also through Go Westy for around $300.00 bucks but it should really help. My bus is an automatic as well. Although I can't vouch for all of the stuff Go Westy has out there I am pleased with these two items and also recently changed over to 16 inch tires and wheels. I know its a liitle late and I'm really sorry to hear what your going through but I feel you pain. I have also had the same shop, Larryz's Auto works in down town Sacramento for over 10 years and have been really happy with them if your looking. Good luck my friend and hang in there. When it all done and your sitting around the camp fire with your house parked next to you all of the bad stuff will just fade away!!!!!
