Event Description

Join us in the scenic and historic Feather River Canyon at Hallsted Campground in the Plumas National Forest. The campout will feature tie-dyeing and a potluck dinner Saturday.

Please Note: All sites have been reserved as of 5/19. You will need to arrange a share if you do not have a reservation. See the comment wall for a list of known campers and sites.

There are National Forest Service free campsites nearby as well as camping at the Twain Store, both within walking distance. The link to the Hallsted campground where the campout is being held is in the header above.

The Historic Feather River Railroad route runs on the opposite side of the river from the campground. Trains climb and descend the grade at all hours-you will be falling asleep to the rumble of the diesel engines and the squeal of steel wheels on the tracks. If you have never driven through the Feather River Canyon, it is a natural and cultural resource treat!

Those looking for hot springs can find them a couple miles up the road. Formerly known as "Woody's", they are now associated with an RV and cabin establishment. I think you need to call ahead and there is a $5 fee. Details here:

The Moon will be at half on Friday and ~66% on Saturday.  Might still bump into a tree or two so take a lantern with ya.

Speaking of lanterns...we prefer the use of low-flame oil burning lanterns. Short of screaming, NO COLEMAN LANTERNS, that's really how Gold Country Campers roll. So, if you are a newbie to our campouts, leave the propane lanterns at home. Or be prepared to be stoned.

Comment by John LaTorre on June 3, 2014 at 9:47pm

Coleman lanterns can actually be turned down to the same soft level of illumination of a kerosene lantern. But most of us generally carry a spare or two, if you need one.

Cold water flowing by... reminds me of  Time and the River Flowing: .  A Sierra Club "battle book" about the Grand Canyon of the Colorado, words by Francois Leydet with photographs by Philip Hyde who lived on Indian Creek in Taylorsville just a hop north of Hallsted, home of the famous cash register mentioned in dispatches.

Bring wood.  Bring wine.  Bring a fan AND sun screen

Hi everyone,
Does anyone have a space for my bus (1971 Westy) for just one night (must be back in Walnut Creek for Saturday late afternoon) ?

I promise to be good :)
Cheers, Carole

P.S. I wasn't sure I could make this but now will be in Clearlake later today and that's almost half way to Oroville from here.

My space is opened up, Ruben cannot make it...

Do they sell wood at the campground or do we need to bring it?
