Event Description

Join us in the scenic and historic Feather River Canyon at Hallsted Campground in the Plumas National Forest.

We have a full house. ALL SITES HAVE BEEN RESERVED as of May 17. There is one non-reservable site you can take a chance on. Otherwise, check the comment wall to see if someone wants to share. The recreation.gov link is below:

Hallsted Campground

The Historic Feather River Railroad route runs on the opposite side of the river from the campground. Trains climb and descend the grade at all hours-you will be falling asleep to the rumble of the diesel engines and the squeal of steel wheels on the tracks. If you have never driven through the Feather River Canyon, it is a real treat!

Those looking for hot springs can find them a couple miles up the road. Formerly known as "Woody's", they are now associated with an RV and cabin establishment. I think you need to call ahead and there is a $5 fee. Details here:

A spot has been graciously offered to me.  Looking forward to seeing everyone again in a few weeks.

I'm in 16.  It's an electric site.  Cost is a bit more.  I have it from Thursday to Sunday.  I just checked the site info via reserveamerica.  It shows 25' max vehicle.

I'm usually one of the first to offer up bunking' down with another Volk but this time I cannot until the bitter end.  I may be pulling a small trailer and that will take up some room.  Might not be able to accommodate a second vehicle.  I was sharing with Rick early on but after looking at the spot from past GTG's I noticed that it may not be up to their style of setting up camp.  They acknowledged and chose to grab another site.  No worries.  We're still friends.  So, in the end, I'll leave the second half of 16 open until I get there, (thursday).  Maybe then if I see a second vehicle will fit, I'll try to post something on here, provided I get a wifi signal.  Might be able to use my phone.

Wait.  What was the question?  Bring wood.  Bring wine.  That rings a bell.

Peace,

Regis and others: if you have a link to online photos from previous TS campouts, would you mind posting it here? I was trying to recall a few sites to help a few people choose and I realized I couldn't get a detailed picture in my mind.

I have links to a couple of TS GTG's.  Nothing to decisive though.  Every spot is doable and that's what makes Hallsted such an awesome place.

You're the best,- WW

Is it too early to start the potluck discussion?

Comment by John LaTorre on May 24, 2015 at 11:30am

I'll do the usual three-grain rice for the potluck. Or we could just do what we did at Cheating Death, which was just for everybody to bring up munchables at around four p.m. or so.

Jamez- that is remarkable! You may have to venture up to Portola to the Western Pacific Railroad Museum. It's only an hour or so up the road...BTW, add one more "L" to Hallsted and the poster will be perfect!

EXACTLY why we proof before we print! Thanks WW.

I am planning on cooking something in my dutch oven. Maybe a peach cobbler.

At TrainSpotting, we have a history of potlucks. It is a tradition I'd like to see continued. Don't forget, we have the late afternoon prize raffle as a pre-prandial celebration. And boy oh boy, do we have some fun stuff for the raffle this year! Vendors are stepping up, as well as several VW CamperFam members who are throwing in some cool gear.
