Hallsted Campground

The Historic Feather River Railroad route runs on the opposite side of the river from the campground. Trains climb and descend the grade at all hours-you will be falling asleep to the rumble of the diesel engines and the squeal of steel wheels on the tracks. If you have never driven through the Feather River Canyon, it is a real treat!

Those looking for hot springs can find them a couple miles up the road. Formerly known as "Woody's", they are now associated with an RV and cabin establishment. I think you need to call ahead and there is a $5 fee. Details here:

I hate me some skeeters Bees and Yellow Jackets..... but we're coming!! Still looking forward to meeting whomever makes it out!! .... We plan on Leaving Sacramento by 1:00 tomorrow. Should get up there around 3:30 or so...... plenty of light left and time to get our bearings and say hi! See you tomorrow!

Updated weather looks much better with even a slight chance of rain for Saturday night and Sunday...... woo hoo!

I'm home now changing my oil after a 2 week trip to Slab City.

Glad it's only 85 here.  That was the LOW at the slabs.  115 was the high.

Can't wait to cool off with the 'skeeters and bees.

18 is an awesome shady spot... Thanks Kris, I owe you some cold beers next time!

Anyone leaving Sacto earlier than Doug? I'd love to follow you up.

I don't mean to jump on 18 like I own it...  If anyone else wants it or wants to share it it's all good with me.   I'm just glad to be able to show up and camp with y'all...

Brian.

I had a meltdown, me not the van. Thank you Doug and Melissa for stopping. Fire trucks and an ambulance arrived and gave me what I needed so I ended the day by going home. I'm so disappointed that I'm not there to meet you all. Have a blast and I look forward to camping with you all.

To Stephanie: sorry about your meltdown. Glad you are in a safe spot. The heat in the valley can be brutal. Hopefully you can join us next time, maybe at the beach? It sure sounds good about now. Take care!

Hot days, cool people, fun times... the river made the weather manageable...
