Event Description

In celebration of 4/20!

We will be camping again at Lake Solano County Park campground, which is technically in Winters, but somewhat closer to Vacaville.

You'll need to reserve a site for yourself (and maybe your pal) in the range of sites from #39 to 45. That's the main VW area. If those run out, then consider snagging sites 8,9,10 or 11. And if those run out, there are lotsa other spaces.

PLEASE SHARE YOUR SITE. Or don't. No worries.

This campground is easy to get to, has a swell nature center, fishing opportunities and has unabashed roaming peacocks.

Saturday night will feature PANTRY-RAID CHILI!!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Important notes:

(1.) This campground LOCKS ITS GATES at 9:00 pm. If you do not arrive before they lock the gates, you will be camping outside the gate until the following morning.

(2.) Although this event occurs on 4/20 day, it must be pointed out that all Solano County Campgrounds are smoke-free and they're quite serious about that.

Discretion is nine-tenths of the law.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

CORNHOLE COMPETITION!

Saturday at 11:00 am in the (TBA) Cornhole area.

Practicing shall occur on Friday afternoon around beer:30

See Paul for more details.

PANTRY RAID CHILI INSTRUCTIONS:

Look in your pantry. Grab only *ONE* 14 oz. (or so) can that matches the description on the list below.

Then, bring that can (along with a bowl and spoon for yourself) to the camp out. We will add the contents of your contribution to a base of beef and onions.

PANTRY RAID CHILI CONTRIBUTION OPTIONS:

Bring along one 14 oz. can of any of the things listed below:

Pinto beans
Red Kidney beans
White beans
Navy beans
Piquinto beans
Diced tomatoes
Diced tomatoes with Italian spices
Diced tomatoes with Jalapeños.
Crushed tomatoes with Eye of Newt

Chopped tomatoes
Chili con carne

Chili sin carne
Chili with beans
Chili without beans

Roadkill Chili

Rotel tomatoes

Ranch Style (tm) brand beans of any variety.

Please do NOT bring Black beans.

Please do NOT bring Garbanzo beans.

Please do NOT bring Lentil beans.

If bringing a can of beans won’t work for you, then bring a loaf of pre-made Garlic bread or a scrumptious dessert. Or a bottle of wine. We like wine. Or firewood. We like that too. If that won’t work either, then just bring yourself, a bowl, a spoon and an appetite.

What consenting adults do is none of our business.

It is very likely that the Solano County Parks Dept will shortly not allow a bunch of goofs in VW campers to congregate, commingle, cross-pollinate and carry on.

However, they need to be the ones to cancel it. If they pull the plug, that may enable all of us to get refunds *and* receive our reservation fees back.

At this time, I’m pretty sure that the 420 campout is not going ahead as scheduled, but let’s wait for the official word from the Rangers.

If we're willing to take a risk, it could be that Live Oak will still be open and will let us camp, as long as we remain distant enough from each other. The chili cookoff would probably be off, though. I think I'll head up there on Friday. If the campground is closed, I'll head back. If it's open, I'll give Joe a call so he can put the word out on this forum.

Or somebody could suggest some BLM land that won't be roped off.

Thoughts?

The Solano County Parks have closed camping until April 7th. (Personally, I think that they are dreaming and that the campground will be closed until the end of May).

Stay tuned.

In the interest of public health related to the Covid-19 virus, reservable public spaces, including campground operations, the Lake Solano Nature Center Exhibit, the Lake Solano Day Use pad rentals, the Lake Solano Play structure, Youth Group Camp Area, public events such as docent tours, stewardship events and school field trips will all be cancelled through at least April 7th.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

The Parks Department changed their warning only slightly. However, since 45 announced that the in-home-navel-pondering will last until April 30th, don;t hold your collective breath.

Lake Solano Park will be closed until May 1st, so that means that the 4/20 Campout is hereby cancelled.

You will receive a telephone call from Mr. Ranger harshing your mellow and promising a refund for the fees.

Now then: commemorative refrigerator magnets were produced for this event.

If you would like a spiffy free refrigerator magnet, simply send an email to static@well.com with the subject line: "magnet" and provide your mailing address.

Ranger Shawn left a very personable message on my voice mail. I am truly going to miss this one. And all of you.

Ranger Sean is funny, too. I sent him a magnet.

Making sad face.

I got a call from him, too. Refunds on the way. I told him that we'd reschedule once this is over. Maybe a Halloween thing? Or something...
