Event Description

Who could be thinking about turkey at a time like this you may ask ?! Well, I am, for one. It's time again for the annual GTG at Sandy Beach in Rio Vista Ca. Bring dish, something on the dish, your favorite camp chair, and enjoy the company of like minded peoples. This gathering is open to all people, all ages. Camp with how you came. Past, present, and future VW owners. Everyone has a story.

Repeat the mantra after me: Bring wood - Bring wine

Comment by regis101 on August 31, 2026 at 8:18am: PSA - Sandy Beach Park books two weeks out. I'm guessing this means you should have until Oct 29 , maybe the 30th, to grab a site.

We usually stay in the site 2-20 section. Party Central to be determined shortly.

Post up your site number and whether or not you will share with another . Each site has one ( 1 ) thirty ( 30 ) amp power outlet. An adapter will be needed if you use a standard 110v extension cord.

It'd be helpful is someone would announce they'll do the ceremonial turkey bird. Other meats are surely welcomed as well as bringing G-Ma's secret recipe tasty side dish. Please keep in mind any vegetarian dishes are appreciated. OMG , and a dessert. Yummy.

Camping is getting expensive but your friends are priceless. Cya there.

Comment by regis101 on August 31, 2026 at 8:34am: I just booked site 4. It looks like a handful of sites on the back side of that loop have been taken already. I didn't want to post this event for the following weekend since its quite close to Turkey day itself. Fingers crossed I didn't flub.

Comment by regis101 on August 31, 2026 at 10:25am: I just checked the campground for the following weekend and its crowded. This years event will stay with the 13th - 15th. I'll keep half of site 4 open for you there JLT. No worries about that.

Comment by regis101 on August 31, 2026 at 4:12pm: Site 4 has historically been party central. But where we gather on saturday can be wherever. Yeah, fingers crossed on the weather. It’s been forgiving in years past. I’m sure we can rustle up some pop ups and/or a tarp n pole structure and/or both.
