Train Spotting will return in 2013. We will be going back to the Feather River Canyon-Hallsted Campground in the Plumas National Forest. Hallsted has been refurbished and "improved" with new bathrooms with showers (!), a second path to the river, 7 sites now have electric hookups, sites are shifted around, there are new site furnishings, etc. There is also one pull-through site for a large RV. It sounds really nice but will be different from the forgotten little campground we are used to. Reservations now available at:

The Historic Feather River railroad route runs on the opposite side of the river from the campground. Trains climb and descend the grade at all hours-you will be falling asleep to the rumble of the diesel engines and the squeal of steel wheels on the tracks. If you have never driven through the Feather River Canyon, it is a natural and cultural resource treat!

Check-in time theoretically is 3:00 pm. But, I am sure there will be no one there. We plan to arrive around 1:00 pm. It's going to be warm folks, downright hot, so travel early if you can!
For potluck, I am still on the fence, but am thinking grillables: drumsticks, chicken sausages. I may also bring or bake some cornbread to go with all the chili!
I'm having some very major problems at work right now, and may not make it up there until early Saturday morning. I'll bring up some of the usual salami and cheese, and a sourdough baguette and some spinach dip...hope that is okay.
Hey it's me the new guy (Rick ,Susan and Daisy) Looking forward to this like crazy....bringing chili....kidding, a couple of apps, guacamole, salsa, chips and something else, see you all soon. We'll be in # 4
No worries, Kris-do you want us to put someone in your spot for Friday night? Or not?
Rick, et al, it will be great to see more new faces. Sounds like you have the right sense of humor! Ahh, but, what are "apps"? free iPhone/Android give-aways? Shall we put them in the raffle?
geez...sorry, maybe I'll raffle off my dumbphone when I smarten up and join the smartphone gang.Restaurant speak for appetizer- It'll be tasty and I will bring a legit raffle item as well.
Oh, I think a little One Speed Pizza would be great! ;-)
Might not make it until early Saturday also. Don't get out of work until 3 and don't want to travel in105 degrees. Would be bummed to turn my engine into a melted ball!! Keep you posted
I think you will find enthusiasm for some craft beer tasting. That's a great idea!
Can someone provide more details about the raffle? Do we need to bring something?
No, don't bring anything but yourselves and something for the potluck . The raffle is just for few interesting items donated by various vendors. There is no cost for the raffle, you'll get tickets and a goodie bag with some swag on Saturday sometime.
