VW Camper Family

A camping forum for VW bus and camper owners.

The Dometic Refrig in my '90 Vanagon wouldn't light.  Called Bus Depot in Berkeley about fixing it.  The guy on the phone said "What we do is remove the vent cover and attach a blower to blow out all the dust and bugs that settle there, and that usually solves the problem."  So I attached an aquarium siphon (has a big end and a litle end) to my shop vac and inserted the small end of the siphon into the small vent tube and turned the shop vac on.  A cloud of dust blew out!!!  When I tried to restart the refrig it started very quickly, and the refrigerator temperature dropped lower than ever before.  Thank you, Bus Depot.

A correction to my message: the advice came from "The Bus Lab" in Berkeley, CA not Bus Depot.
Thanks I'll give that one a try on my 84
Wow I will have to try this my 84.It still lights and runs. It is much more easy to light with Engine Idleing, works eveytime so far. Bill Witz 84 Westy
