VW Camper Family

A camping forum for VW bus and camper owners.

We need help in lighting the 1984 original refr.  Our mechanic can always do it without
problems for us, but he doesn't know how teach us how to do it. Is there an instructor-type out there who can help us?  We like it when we finally get it lit.
Thanks!

is it the dometic?
It's the original unit, so, yes, think it must be the dometic.

I just do what it says on the inside of the door and it lights!
Start it first on 120 volts for a few hours. It will start a lot easier on gas then.
I have a 84 Westy Ours Will start with no problem if you start and run the van while holding down button and useing pump . Does led still work on panel ??? In the summer you have to precool it with 120 ac volts and blue ice.
Even at that sometimes its just too darn hot outside for it to work well....

P.S. I place a little tube and blow into the bottom brass line at the bottom of the frig instead of using the pump and it helps a lot for lighting. I have done the pre chill on 110 and it made no difference. I did add two computer fans where the stock Dometic fan was mounted, insulation behind the frig and also a computer fan up at the top by the table just to get rid of the heat. I found out that sun beating on the side of my Westy is no help. That's all I can add.
