Just got back from this campground. It is located between Corona Del Mar and Laguna Beach, there are sites with power and sites without every site has an ocean view and the sites are good size, some nice trails and just a short walk to a really nice beach. You can also jump on your bicycle and you are in Laguna Beach in no time (some hill climbing but nothing bad. Very clean (built in 2011) showers, nice clean bathrooms. The dolphin loop was very nice. Check it out.

Greetings. IMO, camping anywhere in the Delta can be fun if you can find the right spot.

It seems to me that most CG's are catered to the RV crowd. That doesn't make them bad people.

But when that hidden little spot can be found, the rewards can be good.

This is a link to Westgate Landing Regional Park. It is run by the San Joaquin Park and Rec dept.

14 sites. No power. Has day use. Has flush toilets that could use a cleaning but nonetheless.

Mike and I did a recon there.

There is a host and he gave us plenty of info about the area as well as the campground.

If I was writing for Tom Steinstra, I'd rate this as a 7. It could be an 8 if there was utilities.

I feel that this could be a good place for a quick and close by GTG for when we're looking to have somewhere to go in between the annuals.

A minimum res time of three weeks and up to a year in advance.

Maybe sometime we could go there or at least take advantage of the day use area for an afternoon bbq for a looskie.

Just sayin'

Portola Redwoods State Park is located near La Honda, CA and highway 84. It's $35 a night for vehicle campsites. There are plenty of sites for two or more buses to camp together very easily. There's a nice creek that runs through part of the campground and plenty of hiking trails. Showers and toilets are available.

I recently took the family camping here, along with several other families, and this is a great campground. It's beautiful, very well maintained and the facilities are nice. We had several kids in our group and they all had a blast. The place is a little out of the way and there are some curvy roads to navigate to get there, but I highly recommend it. We'll definitely be going back!

Greetings. This place is east of Madera about 60ish miles. The last nine miles are slow going. It was in the low hun's so I didn't stay long although camping gear was in hand. The CG didn't turn me on. It was carved out of the hill side. There are some level spots but nothing to brag about. The dust was thick. Lots of OHV trails. Surprisingly, there was water coming over the falls. I saw evidence of larger water flows but it's been a dry year. I then continued up the NF 8S09 road…

Surprisingly, there was water coming over the falls. I saw evidence of larger water flows but it's been a dry year. I then continued up the NF 8S09 road for about two miles to Camp 5. It was a flat spot on top of the ridge and fairly level. I could see up to ten vehicles circled easily with others tucked in here and there. I'm not sure how long the general area stays open. I think Whisky falls CG is open from June -Oct.

It is a long way from my house just to see a flat spot on top of a ridge.

My next adventure will be out Rt 4 toward Arnold and beyond since it's closer and quicker to some NF lands.

Technically, the park is in Oregon. But if you are traveling to/from Maupin and looking for a campground that has hot showers and shore power to charge up all your gadgets, I can recommend Goose Lake Recreation Area near Lakeview, OR. It is literally right on the state line off Highway 395. The cellular phone service is spotty, but I did eek out enough bars from time-to-time to send a few e-mails and play Words with Friends. The bathrooms are spotless. It is a state park and the fee for one vehicle is $20.00. Emphasis on "park". Open grassy, shaded sites. Be sure to gas up in either Alturas, CA or Lakeview, OR, because there is nothing in-between. Located on Highway 395. Camp host has firewood and ice. No pay phone.

It's pretty inexpensive: $10 a night per car for camping, $5 for day use. No category for extra vehicles; everything with a motor pays the ten bucks. Trailers, however, are not considered extra vehicles, so they're free. The site has picnic tables, barbeques, and firepits. No reservations are allowed, and they're probably not required, since this isn't a well-known campground.

Wow! Mt. Madonna County Park (Santa Clara County) has added 3 sizes of yurts to the the camping options. The off-season prices are $35- $75/night. The $35 size covers six people. An outdoor picnic table, fire ring, outside food locker are at each site; free nearby showers are available. This might be a great wintertime camping option. There are some of us who remember the 6" rain we endured in December, 2008, while camping at Mt. Madonna.

Here is the link:…

There is an RV park in Columbia, Marble Quarry, which has 8 "tent" sites that are fine for an overnight in the bus. Electric & water for about $25. The sites are gravel and partially shaded by old oaks. (There is no privacy). You can walk into historic Columbia. There is wi-fi. AAA discount. Or you can spring for an RV site- whoo-hoo! Give them a call. http://www.marblequarry.com/
