Well, I got some news that affects my participation. I'm going in for a type of surgery on October 22, and am told that the recovery time might be for up to six weeks afterward. So I may not be able to be there. I hate to cancel the event, but if I'm not there to cook the turkey, I don't know if there's anybody else who wants to take that role.
I'm awaiting your decision on this. I suppose I can get my payment for the sampsite back, but I haven't had to do this yet.
I wish John a successful surgery and speedy recovery and I hope to get to see him (however briefly) on the weekend. I will be in CA touring for a couple of weeks and I've rented a "winter special" camper from Escape Campervans, thanks to a tip from Joe. I'm eyeing up site #15 as I've camped there before with Joe & Corey. They are very welcome to join me if they can bear the drive. I just need to work out how to book the site without knowing my rental's license plate. Assuming all works out, I will bring scotch.
Hello; and I just learned about John's health recovery, and hoping all is going well. I just realized that I may be able get away next weekend, but late for registration. If I can get a reservation by the telephone or by sharing a spot with somebody, I will see you next weekend. S0 please let me know if it is possible. Thanks, Lev
Lev, you can have my space (#4). At this point in my recovery, I think that I may be able to come out for the day, but I won't be camping. (And, sorry, no turkey this year, unless I can grab some and cook it here beforehand, which I will try to do.) If the rangers ask, tell them that I've been delayed, but will be there on Saturday to verify that you had my permission to camp. They'll probably be cool about it.
From what I can see, there might be a 20% chance of rain on Friday night and a 12% chance on Saturday night, so we might not need the Tent of Doom.
Hi John, thank you for offering your space #4 to occupy/share. If anybody will need to share that campsite, I will do it at #4. Hope to see you even just for some time and, wish you well and good health. The rain?.... we will deal with it as we need. It looks like only a few of us will be there, but "that's life", but still looking for a sunny day!, Lev
Well, I do expect to be there on Saturday and hope to camp overnight. I won't be roasting a turkey on-site, but I will be bringing 3 lbs. of pre-cooked turkey breast, some gravy, and some stuffing. I'll also be bringing a small grill to heat up the meat.
I expect that Kris will do his excellent mashed potatoes, and I'v suggested that Richard bring some bread or a salad. Who else is bringing what?
Unfortunately when it looked like John wasn't going to attend, I changed my reservations to February for the Soup or Bowl instead. I hope everyone has a nice time, and I'll see you all then!
Sorry to miss you, Kris. If that's not a "hard no" you could probably share with Richard or KampnKing. But if it is, I guess we need a plan B for the spuds. Richard has offered, but will anybody else bring them?
Re the spuds: I will bring spuds, a masher, and a peeler (also a little milk and butter). Richard is hereby appointed Chief Cook and Masher of the Potatoes, and charged with turning said ingredients into tasty mashed potatoes.
OK, I will be coming on Saturday (1 night). Has been too much confusing information including on the CELL phone on this Camping! Make it easy, if you (Joh is coordinating this) need any food for the dinner, I can bring:
1. Mash potato/readymade at home,
2. Cramberry
3.Gravy
Just please let me know ASAP - I see only 4 of us listed for dinner!!!
I will find a spot to camp overnight.
I almost like to suggest go out to a restaurant - think about?
Lev, you've already got a spot with me at #4. Richard will be handling the mashed potatoes, and I'll be bringing the gravy, but cranberry sauce would be nice. Or maybe a dressed salad.
So I’m trying to decide what I should bring. Sounds like have gobbler and gravy. Mashed tutors, then not sure if anyone’s bringing anything else. Suggestions?
Just an FYI, THE RIO VISTA BRIDGE WILL BE CLOSED THIS WEEKEND.
I have some Caesar salad 🥗. May not be the best thing to go with the turkey 🦃 but it’s green. I’m also bringing some rolls. Anyone bringing stuffing? Side dishes? Pies?
Just checking so we don’t have five of the same thing 😀
Well, it turned out to be just the three of us: KampnKing, Richard, and myself, but we had a hunk of turkey, gravy, excellent spuds and dressing and cranberry sauce and Caesar salad, and a pleasant time afterwards around the fire. The weather was perfect, albeit a bit chilly. We kept the tradition alive, and hope that next year will have more. (And Lev, you missed out on a night of free camping... the ranger said that since I wasn't going to be in site 4, there wouldn't be an extra vehicle charge for you on Friday night.)

I just reserved #11. The site worked pretty good, didn't have any problems
