Hi So Cal volks! One of these days we need to organize a campout for the Northern and Southern California campers somewhere in the middle. Los Padres National Forest? Central Coast? I'll put my thinking cap on...
The San Luis Obispo area would be a great place to have a North/South meet up...or maybe even Sequoia National Park. We will have to get our thinking caps on and come up with a plan here. We do live in a big state with a lot of wonderful opportunities.
@Kris! You are right. So many great places to go! Sequoia would be fabulous. I haven't been there in such a long time. Know of any VW friendly campgrounds?
Anyone in the LA area? Would love just to cruise on a nice Sunday....a little camper caravan.... Camping is totally something I want to do soon... Sequoia sounds awesome.
I'll suggest a meeting place on January 14 at 11am at The Counter in Marina Del Rey. We can get acquainted, talk about a possible camping trip, eat at The Counter for lunch if tye group wants to (or cruise then eat?)and then go for a Cruise... I have something in the morning on Sat so I can't meet any earlier than 11am.
Hello All! The Bustaches are VERY excited to participate! There is a slight problem with the January 14th date... we have few loyalties to sports, but one of them is to the 49ers.... And their in the playoffs for the first time in almost 10 years... AND the game is at 1:30 on Saturday. SO, would it be possible to do it on Sunday? Or we could meet up with you all after 4pm. :-(D So glad to see this group getting together!!!
I'm ok with 4:30pm Saturday. But I have to be somewhere at 7pm. I was asked to move it from Sunday to Saturday due to the NFL. But I personally can do BOTH!!! :-)
Sat - 4:30pm at The Counter in Marina Del Rey
Sun - 9:00/9:30am at Cafe Milan in Playa Del Rey
We'll do it again another time next month if there are peeps that can't make it this time. Cool???
Sunday morning works better for us (plus it's more fun to cruise during the daylight when people can see us :-), but we can do Sunday too if that works for everyone better.
I'm sorry I'll miss it. I was in SoCal with my bus during the week between Christmas and New Years.
Regarding a Norcal/Socal meet up, it's something I've been wanting to put together for a while. The largest problem is the location - it needs to be midway, and it needs enough ammenities for all types of camping.
Just to get an idea of interest: How does everyone feel about Lake Nacimiento outside of Paso Robles?
Pine Knoll has showers, Eagles Ridge has group sites and showers are always walkable (admittedly a long walk).
It's midway from Norcal/Socal, it's got a lake for those who travel with kayaks on the roof, Paso Robles is nearby if you want/need stuff, and if you feel like taking the scenic route to Hwy one, it's close.
We will try to make Sunday.. prob closer to 930/10 though.. :)
Not sure about Saturday.. I work across the street from the Counter and really don't want to be there on my day off or cruise in the dark... A day cruise sounds like much more fun! :) :) Thanks Orange Crush for organizing!
I'll send out all the contact info for all of us during the next few hours via email. Five original members and all interested in camping events and such. I'll also work on our first camping outing and coordinate with you all. Thanks for all you
Who showed up. Let's keep in touch!
:-) ok... I'm Pat. radugat@hotmail.com I live in Walnut, CA and am involved in a lot of activities at church, practice Filipino Martial Arts and even at 50+ I still want to learn how to surf. My bus is a '79 non-deluxe Westy and her name Echo. I've got six pics in my profile but will work on adding more.
I wish I could've met with everyone at the first meet in MDR and/or PDR but I've got 60 psi compress. on #1 so I'm saving $$$ to replace the head(s)... It's a bummer because I LOVE driving her, especially to the beach with my wife and 3 Yorkies.
In the 70's I loved backpacking/camping in the Sierras with the church youth group. They carted us around in a VW bus. Maybe that's where the desire came from.
So, I "sold" my wife on the idea of getting one by renting a Westy from Bill at Vintage Surfari (Honu Li'u) for her birthday week. On the last rental day we woke up with the surfers riding waves at South Carlsbad SB. It was a brisk, sunny morning having breakfast and coffee off the burners with pop-top up. Cleaned up the fire pit and headed for our last destination which was in the snow at Julian so that we could pick up a few apple pies. We returned My wife loved it so much that by the time we got back home in our car she said "We're getting a bus!" even before I turned off the car.
Robert from Mojave, CA bajaman73@gmail.com I have a 72 Transporter. No name yet :( Also have a 73 Baja (aka Booger) that we play with in the desert and go camping. I'll figure out how to put pics in my gallery.
Hey, my name is Les, from Tehachapi, Ca, and I'm new to the forum (March 24th 2013)I have a 1969 VW Camper (Dormobile) and I'm looking forward to future events and camp outs. Does this group have a Facebook page?

A camper caravan sounds great. Maybe start or end with a potluck picnic. I'm just east of LA.

Outlaws Burger in Playa Del Rey would also be a good place to meet sometime. They have ample parking which is a good thing with these buses! :)
