  • Grace Weber

Hey I have joined! Come to think of it, you're the only other female vw bus owner I have met... I wonder what other strange and awesome women have busses...
  • Laurianne

    I've got "Betsy" a '73 type 2..she's wonderful - The Husband sez he'll never get that Bus away from me..Evah ~ !! ~
  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

Hi Laurianne, A great intro' to the group and lovely to meet you.
I'm a 71 Westy named Dexter, by my first female owner in Oregon. Carole calls me the YesWeCan CamperVan because when she bought me on Ebay at the end of 2009, she wasn't sure about driving me from OR to MA. In the end we spent 6 months and 10K miles on the road together!
We met Grace in Holbrook, AZ as we were traveling in opposite directions and Kristine at a campout in CA. Spread the word!
  • westywoman (Melissa)

I'm on my third Vanagon Wesfalia. One air-cooled and two water-cooled in my history. I am hopelessly addicted. Cheers!
  • Leslie Jones

Hello friends! I'm "Xena" and my driver is Leslie. We've only been together about a year and mostly we wheel Mom into the back in her chair and off we go around town. We hope to do the camping thing someday.
  • Double Bubble Breast Cancer Bus

I am the Double Bubble Breast Cancer Bus. It is great to find other VW Women.
  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

Hello, Julia, Melissa (Westywoman), Jenn, Leslie (Xena) and Katrina (Double Bubbles Breast Cancer Bus),. We've met you on-line through facebook and one day hopefully we'll meet you in person.
We have ten members already - all in the USA so far. Please spread the word. The internet is global so there's no bounds to us VW women:)
Cheers from Carole and her YesWeCan CamperVan
  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

Hey Quillen, great to see you here. How's the LA area at this time of year? And do you have names for your two gals - your bus and Westfalia?
    Cheers, Carole
  • Heidi Stoermer

here i am! thanks for the invite, Carole! :)
  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

hello Heidi, great to catch you online at the same moment, so that worked well. Welcome to you and also to today's other new group members, The Canterbury's (which one is female?), Laura Anne and mj.
We're now 14. Anyone want to start a new discussion in this group or suggest what they'd like the group to be about, or shall we let it simply evolve?
    Best, Carole
  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

Hello new members - PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF if you have not done so already and feel free to add a new discussion topic or read the above notes on this comments wall and reply to something here.
I'm trying to recruit new members, can you help by posting a note on your Facebook Wall?
    Cheers, Carole
  • Laura Anne

hello everybody~ I am Laura, I drive "Lenny"... I restored him from sitting around rusting away under a tarp and now my boyfriend and I are driving him to California! He has had some rough spots along the way but he is running perfectly now. I could not have done it without the help and constant support from my boyfriend Trey~ we both share in the work, but I did most of the aesthetics. :D

Glad to be here and meet everyone! :)
  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

Hi Laura, Sounds great. Where did you start? How many miles so far/to go?
    Best of luck, Carole
  • Terry Stricklin

Hi, I am Terry. I live in Toledo OH with my Gypsy Woman, a 1984 Vanagon. She was born in Germany (imagine that !!) and raised in the So. CA desert. I was a bit worried about driving her from Riverside CA to Toledo OH. but we made it with just a few burps and bumps. The "Gypsy" is amazing. She is the apple of my kids and grand kids eye. I am hopelessly in love and having the time of my life. We recently spent the weekend on Kelly's Island (in Lake Erie) for the VW camp out. I am so happy to find out there are other female VW lovers. Thanks for forming the club and inviting , me to join !!
  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

Hello ladies, it's so nice to hear from everyone.
Later we will not be able to find all these introductions on this comments wall, so I've created a place all the intros' can be kept together and separate. Therefore could you kindly go to the 'Discussion forum' at the top and click on the 'INTRODUCTIONS' topic and follow the request in the first post? Depending on how many posts there are before you, you may have to click 'Next' at bottom of page to get to the message box and enter your details.
    THANKS.
    Carole

  • Nancy Barrett

    Hi,

I'm Nancy and I drive a 66 Type II green and white bus. It looks really cool, but it's not that comfortable for long trips. Now that Bush and Obama have ruined the economy, I need to sleep in my bus to save money when I go places. I sleep on the middle bench, which is not that wonderfully comfortable, especially since I'm a BBW. However, the price is right. I have a propane stove which I love, but it's not that convenient to pull it out and use it, especially when it's cold and/or windy. I would like to take out my middle seat and put in an actual bed of some sort, because I'm a little too tall to stretch out completely when I lie down. I use an ice chest to put my feet on when I sleep. I push the ice chest back in when I get in the bus, then I get situated on the bench. I push the ice chest towards the barn doors so my feet can lie on it. I used to use two ice chests and a lot of blankets to make a bed, but then I have to crawl in over it. And when I have to go to bathroom, I have to crawl out. Easier is to just have a place where to put my feet.
My mom sent me a female urinal from Harriet Carter, and it works fairly well. This makes it easy if it's cold. I don't have to get out in the cold, I can just empty it on the parking lot.
I bought a TV tray from WalMart for $10, my plan is to put my propane stove on it in my van so I can cook sitting inside the van.

    Yours aye,

    Nancy
  • Kim Hayes

Hello, I am Kim. My buses' name is Betty she is a 71 wagon of some sort, not a camper but we have been camping in her since we got her almost 2 years ago. My family loves to camp in any form and we love to go to all the camp-outs here in the Southwest and meet up with other camping VW enthusiasts. Can't wait to chat with other female Vw enthusiasts! I see a lot of my friends aren't on here yet that also have busses so let me send out invites to them now!
  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

Hi Kim, Welcome and thanks for inviting others! I am amazed we have over 20 women here already after less than one week. At this rate we could be having a VW Women conference :)
Please see the Discussion forum and my note called INTRODUCTIONS.
    Cheers, Carole
  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

Howdie gals, Who is going to Buses by the Bridge? PLEASE POST YOUR ANSWER IN THE DISCUSSION FORUM 'BBB' AT TOP OF PAGE.
Also there you will see the place to introduce yourself. You can follow the guidelines or copy and paste what you wrote here on the COMMENT WALL. OK?
    Cheers,
    Carole
  • Terry Stricklin

I wish you all a wonderful time. I will be in Toledo at work. I have been to the bridge before. It is fun except in the HEAT of the summer. Wish I could be there.
    Terry
  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

Hello ladies, Well it's great to see that we are up to 30 members now and have women from 4 countries. I guess you can see that for yourselves but just thought I'd mention it. What has surprised me is the greater number from eastern America from what I had expected, so it's not true that all the US campers are in California!

Welcome to this new group Tammy and it's been so nice also hearing from your husband on Facebook recently.

Lovely to hear from you Melissa - thanks for taking care of the VW Camper Family and thanks also for befriending me shortly after I got my VW this time last year.

A few of us are meeting at Buses by the Bridge and I'm hoping we can come up with a few ideas as to the purpose of our group that I can then share with those of you who can't be there to ask for your opinions.

As I've said before please start any topics of interest to you in the discussion forum. I'm also going to post this message in the comments area since only some of us have contributed to this 'INTRODUCTIONS' section.

    Happy VWing!

    Carole

  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

40 members now!!! Anyone want to start a new discussion topic or ask for any help or specific advice from the group?
  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

Hello gals, Have we all connected with each other on this site by inviting and accepting the 'friends' function?

    Just a thought,
    Carole

  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

We were up to 41 members so you may wonder why it now says 38? Apparently 3 men had snuck into the group!

The administrators of VW Camper Family site recommended I have to approve new members. Is that OK with everyone? They also added 'For Women Only' to the name.

    Any comments?

  • Donna Seago

Sounds like a good idea to me, Carole!

    Donna

  • Terry Stricklin

I agree.....good idea. What's up with these men anyway. This is girl's only !!! Thanks for taking care of our group.

    Terry

  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

Disappointing response in that only 2 out of 37 of you replied to my request for a test response.

I'm trying to gauge how many of you see messages sent to your inbox. Is it really only two?

    Carole

  • Terry Stricklin

I open every single email I get. Thanks for keeping this going !!

    T~

  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

Thanks Terry. The question I keep asking is what do we want our group to be for? Or do we simply send out a comment or question when we want others advice or to offer tips to others?

    Carole

  • Kathleen Hines

Sorry just replying now I'm here :... Bus has beEn in body shop for 14 months been so sad about it :( guess we picked the wrOng body guy caused I think he's really lazy and dragging this project out looking forward to getting my Clementine bAck
  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

Hi Kathleen Sorry to hear tabout Clementine  14 months is a long time to be missing your camper. Was it a repair, restoration project? And where is your body shop guy? Should we be wary?
  • Terry Stricklin

I am not sure. If we all lived close it would be wonderful to have a girls camp out. Of course that is not a possibility. I do enjoy reading everyone's comments and knowing that I am possibly not the only single woman who owns a Vanagon. Maybe we should just ask the group what they feel the mission of the group should be. I do not have any suggestions of hand.

    T~

  • Mary Phillips

Greetings! I have a 1987 VW Westfalia. Got it back in 1999. Have done repairs here and there. I call her the Stealth Vagon. Still have some maintenance to do on her, but she's road trip ready. Have explored a many of roads already with her and dogs as co-pilot's. Past due for another road trip. Looking forward to sharing and finding other VW Camper like minded individuals. Would enjoy going with others VWs camping somewhere.

  • Janna Jacobson

Looks like lots of west coasters on here!  Would be fun to try to plan a west coast get together. Thoughts??

  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

Hi Janna, I am hoping to meet up with a VW woman from Florida in the San Luis Obispo area around 25 April. Her bus is stored near there. I am in London right now and my 71 Westy is stored in Corona, CA. Where are you? Want to do some driving together? I am relocating to CA.

  • Carole & the 'YesWeCanCamperVan'

Hi Everyone, Mostly we converse on Facebook and visits here are few and far between. Let me know if you'd like to join the facebook VW Woman group, by visiting my facebook account at http://www.facebook.com/carole.brown1 and messaging me.
    Cheers!

  • Robyn Kerr

Hi, I just joined after searching online for VW camper women! Sharon and I are in our early 60s, live in NorCal between SF and Yosemite NP, and are proud owners of a 1990 Westy currently undergoing some restoration and upgrades. We'll soon hit the road again and hope to meet more like-minded active women who are into camping, hiking, kayaking, exploring, etc.
  • Michelle

    Hi Robyn and Carol,
We own a eurovan so we aren't as cool as you guys, but we are in Turlock (maybe near you Robyn?) and have camped out over 20 times since buying our vehicle 2 years ago. We have two kids that love camping too (the kids were why went went with eurovan and not bus.). We are often up for weekend get aways so let us know if you want company. And I completely understand not wanting the kid factor on some trips. Not offended! But sometimes they provide great entertainment, especially when they aren't your own.
    Hope to see you around,
    Michelle (and melanie)
  • Robyn Kerr

Hello, everyone, Sharon and I just joined under my name. We are proud and grateful owners of a 1990 Westy currently undergoing some restoration and upgrades for another 26 years of camping road trips.  Soon "Newton" (short for Farfig Newton, so named for the VW slogan popular in 1990) will be ready to hit the road and we're looking forward to linking up with active, like-minded women who enjoy camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, exploring, etc.  Newton is my 3rd Vanagon/Westy since 1974.  We are in our early 60s and live a in NorCal town right smack between SF and Yosemite.  Soon as I figure out how to post a pic, I will.
