It's buggin me that I took a huge roadtrip last summer, and I can't even recall the names of half the campgrounds I was at.... having too much fun I guess.
A great week wound up not going to Devils Tower got a new filter for my camera so i wanted to go somewhere with water wound up at Rifle Falls and i got a great spot #6 very nice campground quiet secluded walk to the falls a lot of water perfect this year....if you get the chance camp here!
Thanks...I just started a Facebook page called Rocky Mountain VW Campers. There must be 30 VW campers, buses, Westys, and vans in this town of Salida. I'll let you know when we're all going to try to get it together and go camping!! We'd love anyone to join us.
What's the word in here? I want to hear about some good camping spots in Colorado. The last couple of summers we have been camping around the Souhwestern portion of the state. I want to spread my wings and go in a different direction.
Twin Lakes on the east side of Independence Pass is pretty nice. There's a nice little trail around the back side of the lake. You could always take Cottonwood Pass over to Taylor Resevoir...lots of texans and four wheelers, but if you continue west it'll take you over to Crested Butte. You could take I 70 to Gypsum, get off on Colorado River Road and make a second left and that will take you on top of the Flat Tops...it's dirt, but it's easy. I think it's called Coffee Pot road. There's all kinds of lakes and camping. Have you been to Lake City?...that's kind of a cool little town. Black Canyon of the Gunnison?
Thanks Emmy. This is just what I was looking for. We only have two trips slated so far. This will give me a great base to start with. I haven't been to either of those last two you mentioned. Black Canyon of the Gunnison just sounds cool.
There's a boat trip...led by a park ranger. You hike into the canyon, and takes you to the Cuerecanti Needle... And then there's the Crestone Music Festival. It's pretty inexpensive and you can camp at the venue. Or you can head down to the sand dunes or Zapata Falls, which has a new campground. www.crestfest.org I have no trips planned, and I have seam rust. UGH. Happy Trails.
