Event Description

Berlin, a turn-of-the-century mining town, is preserved in a state of arrested decay. A trail through the town site tells the story of Berlin and its mine. Ichthyosaurs (pronounced “ick-thee-o-sores”) were ancient marine reptiles that swam in a warm ocean covering central Nevada 225 million years ago. Remains of these giant marine vertebrates are on display at the park’s Fossil House, and these official state fossils are a primary attraction for visitors from throughout the world. The park is east of Gabbs via State route 844.

Please RSVP as Robin, local park ranger, is expecting a head count for reservations...hee-hee.  There is a camping fee which is under $20 a night.  WARNING: this is a very rural camp area...very difficult to locate an afternoon beverage if not supplied in your cooler.

Sounds cool!  Jenn and I keep meaning to go there but never have enough time.  We'll confirm / rsvp as it gets closer.

When do you need a final headcount? I probably can't commit until about 3 weeks beforehand. Do we need to make our own reservations?

You can count us for the reservations! We are coming out with the bus or baja and we'll be there Friday night. Can't wait to see Berlin and get in some hot springs :-)

Saw this on the park website today. maybe someone can call and find out what's up with the flooding.

IMPORTANT NEWS!

Fees are waived for entrance into Berlin Ichthyosaur State Park  near Gabbs, Nevada, until further notice. Due to flooding in the park, only the park office is open and the Diana Mine tours.   For more informaion, call 775-684-2773.

It looks like if we want to do the Diana Mine tour, we need reservations.  Any interest?

I'm IN!

The drive is long but it goes through beautiful high desert countryside. Some views I haven't seen since 2001. The destination has natural and cultural interests which make it very appealing. I'd like to do the mine tour. I'd also like to find a hot spring. I googled photos of the campground and it seems very nice, with shade pergolas at each site. I had my Westy serviced this week and she's ready to roll.

I am looking forward to camping with all-y'all and supporting Jason & Tasha for putting this event on the calendar. Melissa

Blake's in! Shelby's on the fence. :( Everyone needs to convince her that she HAS to come and it's going to be the greatest trip ever. Bribing her doesn't hurt either. :)
