I know others in our group have attended and can share their experience, check out Big Blue's High Sierra Adventure video.
Yes indeed - we'll be there. Perhaps we find a spot/time to meet up? I know Blake & shelby and Joe & Allison are going in their Vanagons.
This is very good news, we (September and myself) look forward to meeting everyone. We plan to spend the fourth at Sierra Hot Springs and then arrive early the next day at the festival site. As first timers to this festival we're not certain of the site's layout, perhaps meet in the campground around dinner that first evening? Or play it by ear and as the calendar turns we can plan the bus camp rendevzous.
Hey there. Just new to VW Camper Family. :) So, I am going to the High Sierra Festival for the 2nd time this year. Festival! But this will be the first time taking my vanagon, BettyB. I do have a normal parking pass, but wondering where the best place to be able to setup camp next to the van?? Hillside or Shady Grove? I have to pick my tickets up at willcall, so wont be first in line.... Any suggestions would be greatly appretiated!
Here's the best approach to High Sierra - This year get there on the 4th and go to the staging area. If you don't, others will and they will take the good spots. You stay the evening of the 4th (open at 4pm) in the staging area - loud, cold, sucky - but then you are in line to go in when gates open. Hillside is hilly and not a great place to park a bus if you plan on sleeping in it. Most buses head to Shady Grove or Family Camp.
We'll try to be in family Camp.
Great! I agree, it will be fun to meet everyone and dance, dance, dance.
We'll be there with our Trotro (Vanagon) and two small ones. First timer so thanks for the info and looking forward to seeing you all there. ps. How early should we arrive on the 4th to get a good spot in the line? Is it worth changing from will call to mailed tickets? Thanks again
According to the info I just received with my tickets: "Festival gates open 8 am, Thursday, July 5th. Railway Field and the Box Office at Mill Creek Campground will open at 4 pm Wednesday, July 4th, for early queuing. There will be a $20 per vehicle charge (collected on site) to line up early. Please do not arrive earlier than 4 pm."
Also, if you have your ticket and on-site vehicle pass in hand you can go directly to Railway Field to be issued wristbands on Wednesday.
Will-call will be open 4-10 pm on Wednesday at Mill Creek Campground. Your wristband will be issued Thursday morning. High Sierra's # 510-595-1115.
Hope this helps. I've never been so if anyone comes up with a plan to meet up some time on Wednesday before 4 pm, let me know. Thanks!
Wish I could be there. Will be on East Coast n July (not with Bus)
Darn close to festival time! Look forward to meeting with everyone. I pulled up my ticket confirmation and found a receipt for camping in the RV Annex. I recall talking to festival organizers and they recommended that section, can't remember why. Sounds like many of you will be in Shady Grove. September and I will arrive early Thursday a.m. and once set-up will head over to Shady Grove.
