"Sierra Hot Springs If you want to take the long way home (Highway 89 to 80), perhaps a stop at some hot springs would be in order. Sierra Hot Springs are in Sierraville at the junction of 49 & 89."

Octobrrr Cash Register 100th Birthday - Taylorsville, CA at Taylorsville community campground

October 17, 2014 to October 19, 2014
Young's Market in T'Ville will be celebrating the 100th year of operation of their National Cash Register.  "The little old lady of Taylorsville street"  Very nearby is a lovely well-maintained campground with hot showers, nice facilites, on the river.  Grassy sites lots of room.  Resident deer and Turkey and raccoons I suppose.  I visited Philip Hyde's son David there in T'ville in October and did some serious leaf-peeping.  Relatively close to the world famous Williams Loop on the Feather River Route, for those in training. Local Historian "Bronco" volunteered some raconteuring. David Hyde might do a tour of "Rough Rock" his home and the center of operations for his Photographer father Philip Hyde and now David.  Web search for Philip Hyde is worthwhile.  He was the most published photographer in the Sierra Club Exhibit Format "Battle Books" of the 60s and 70s.   His work has the stuff of mastery and magic.Dogs are friendly in T'ville. Barn Quilts abound.   Pesky Moskies are gone by…See More

"Copies of Roughing it Easy (early editions) are anywhere from $4-$8 including shipping from book sellers such as ABE's and Amazon. I have several to share but I really recommend this book if you are hoping to join in the fun."

"Roughing it Easy"-Placerville, CA at Finnon Lake, Mosquito, CA

April 24, 2015 to April 26, 2015
SAVE THE DATE! "Roughing it Easy" theme based on the book of the same name by Dian Thomas. The name of the event is a double entendre, as folks would have the choice of cooking in a cast iron pan or dutch oven over an open fire (Roughing It) or walking to the Mosquito cafe and market for a meal with no cooking involved (Easy).Cooking over an open fire is a skill some of us have lost as we have migrated to specialized outdoor cooking gear. Let's get back to basics. Bring your cast iron skillets and dutch ovens and let's cook! There is a first-class disk golf course as well as a pretty reservoir at Finnon Lake. Yes, you can fish there, too! This date is tentative and will be firmed up later this year. Finnon Lake is at its best in the spring when rains have turned the hillsides green and filled the lake.See More
