A camping forum for VW bus and camper owners.
Hey, I've seen this van rolling around town! Shes a beaut!
Thanks Jake! The license plate has changed since it moved from Capitola (previous owner) to Fremont. I have wanted a Vanagon for years and was happy to find such a nice one. Previous owner took great care of her. She's in the shop for flex plate repair and I'm anxious to get her back:)
Previous owner was very sad to see her go but his wife insisted. I'm the opposite type of wife - I insisted to my Hubby we buy a Westy:)
Nice! The guy who used to own it worked at the dump and every time I'd have to go there I would want to stop and check it out, I thought that it might have been a syncro. He definitely took really good care of it. Thats a bummer that he had to sell it but you guys are super stoked!!
It looks like a synchro, even though it is 2 WD. Mike, previous owner, definitely sold it at the right time though because we ave had to do alot of mechanical stuff. Some was maintenance stuff like rear drums, front brakes, tires and some was just due to wear out (just recently rebuilt the AT), some were me being proactive (AT cooler, fuel hoses, belts, coolant lines tower replaced with stainless steel). So, while we thought going into it we would spend $2000 is misc repairs (per Van Cafe's pre purchase exam), we have spent more like $6000 and still have to spend another $1200 to replace the AC next year. Youch! That said, I still love this Westy and most of the stuff we have replaced should last for years. We are not strangers to this concept, as my husband's vehicle is a "project car" 83 Mercedes 300D which costs much more to repair.
