We came out here Superbowl weekend last year and had sun and 60 degree temps. Thought I'd try a mid January trip - an easy drive, no ferries for mainlanders..

Besides I thought I'd invite all my WW friends to my birthday party on Jan 12 ! What's the vote Oyster stew or smoked beef brisket?

Held in the north Puget Sound area known as the “rain shadow” where the rain is blocked by the Olympic Mountains, there is just an average of just 1.72 inches of rain in February vs 4.38 inches in Seattle and 6.74 inches in Olympia. (13.7” at Nehalem Bay SP)

Deception Pass State Park is a 4,134-acre marine and camping park with 77,000 feet of saltwater shoreline, and 33,900 feet of freshwater shoreline on three lakes. Rugged cliffs drop to meet the turbulent waters of Deception Pass. The park is outstanding for breath-taking views, old-growth forests and abundant wildlife.

We will camp a short distance away at Quarry Pond loop. Reservations are available for both power and standard sites – suggest sites nearest the restrooms. There should be sufficient space for those that do not register, but check the reservations site to be sure. https://secure.camis.com/WA/DeceptionPassStatePark... Last year we had our choice of sites - so I'm not making reservations. Suggest that new campers buy a $12 electric squirrel-cage heater. or Little Buddy.

Directions: From Seattle Drive north on I-5 to exit 230, then travel 18 miles west on SR 20 toward Oak Harbor. Park entrance is on right, one mile south of Deception Pass Bridge. 80 miles from downtown Seattle.
