Is there anybody else planning to camp in the Tehachapi area on Wednesday night, the day before it opens on Thursday? If so, let me know so we can split a camping space. Otherwise, I'll just hit up a truck stop or something?

I would be interested in sharing a spot for the night.  I will be leaving from Campbell  Wednesday morning.  What route are you taking we could meet up along the way and caravan down together.  Do you have a place in mind to stay at?  There is Mountain Valley RV park that I was considering staying at.

I've stayed at Brite Lake Campground, not too far off highway 58:

It's not much to look at, but has clean restrooms and electric hookups if you want to run a heater. The fee is $20/night, and the web site doesn't say if there's an extra vehicle charge.

I'll be driving down 99 to Bakersfield and then taking highway 58 to Interstate 40 at Barstow. Warning: I'll probably be driving at 55 mph or less most of the way, as I'll be towing a trailer.

That works for me.  I like to go slower and enjoy the sites, I'm never in a hurry.  If you can give me an idea of what time you might pass thru Madera I could meet up with you there.

I'll be cruising down 99 late Wednesday morning.  I will be following my brother who will be driving a non vw bus.

My best guess is that I'll be rolling through Madera around noon, IF I can leave Sacramento by 9:30 or so.

My wife has been pretty sick for the last couple of days. So I might have to delay my trip down to BBB, or even cancel it altogether. So don't count on me for inking up, sharing campsites, and so on. Whether and when I attend this year depends entirely on how she's feeling in the next day or so.
