Event Description

Buckeye Campground near Bridgeport (off I-395) closes on October 4. The aspens and cottonwoods should be a brilliant yellow. There are several natural hot springs nearby- Buckeye Creek Hot Spring is within a mile of the developed campground and Travertine Hot Spring is closer to town. I suspect you can also free camp in the NF nearby. I, for one, do enjoy having piped water and toilet, so I will opt for the $17.00 campsite. The last time I was there (late September 2006) there were about 4 campsites occupied, plus a camp host. It was hunting season, so take that under advisement if you plan to go hiking.

For anyone who wants to stick around the area for a few more days or weeks, the ranger gave me closing dates for the following campgrounds: Lower Twin 10/11, Robinson Creek 10/17, Crags 11/1.

Looks like the Giants are in first place and I'll be attending the final series at home that weekend unless they implode between now and then. Too bad - this sounds like a great locale.

Darn, Joel, we'll miss you. Hoping the Giants implode, sorry.

If Shelby and Blake come, we promised to bring ingredients to make Pina Coladas for everybody in their blender. Real coconut milk, real pineapples, and real rum! Ice cold treat to sip on while relaxing in the hot spring!

Sounds good, Jenn! I just uploaded a Google Earth image with placemarks that shows the hots springs location relative to the campground. See it here:http://vwcamperfamily.ning.com/photo/albums/eastern-sierra
