Did you ever wonder where the historic Western Pacific railroad tracks went from the Keddie Wye? The main line goes east over the Sierra but a branch line turns to the north. It is known as the Highline. It follows Indian Creek to the north. It passes by Crescent Mills and Lake Almanor.
We're camping in Taylorsville, a few miles east of the Highline tracks. Taylorsville has a great market with high quality meats, home-made sausages, sandwiches and other grocery items. The Taylorsville campground is a half-mile east of town, along Indian Creek. There is patchy cell service in the campground. Bring your bike to ride into town!
Those of you familiar with Hallsted Campground-Taylorsville is about 17 miles to the north.
No reservations needed. There's plenty of room. If we get 5 or more, the host will reserve sites for us. Bring a table, not all sites have tables. It's an open, grassy campground with nice tree cover. Sites are casual, not highly defined. No electric. Modern bathrooms with flush toilets. Showers require quarters. $14/night.

I like the looks of the pork chops with apples and herbs. Al (Cane Rattler) also tells me they have a righteous cheese selection. Good news is that it looks like Al will join us!
I spoke to the camp host today. She will be reserving an area for us but you are welcome to choose a site of your own. She reported that there are only 6 campers up there this weekend and they are mostly hunters. Nights are getting cold. It rained heavily this past week, so the ground is moist, which will be a nice change for most of us. It should dry out by the time any of us get up there. Fires are OK in the provided fire pits and they still have firewood for sale on site. Don't forget to check out the Taylorsville Market and bring your bicycle!
We're in for Friday night!
Yay - Blake and Shelby!
Melissa - definitely planning on hitting the market and thanks for letting me know there is firewood there.
Looks like all the cool people will be there.
I second Laura's "Yay" for Blake & Shelby!
Al (Cane Rattler) is planning to join us even though he is the "maybe" column.
Looking forward to seeing you all!
So, Blake and Shelby, curious minds want to know where you are off to on Saturday?
That's a good question! Right now we're planning to go exploring and check out some campgrounds in our camping book.
What time is everyone arriving Friday? We'll most likely be there by 2.
I hope to be there before 2:00 pm on Friday, too. I was originally going up today, but circumstances with a pet here at home are delaying my departure. See you there!
