Did you ever wonder where the historic Western Pacific railroad tracks went from the Keddie Wye? The main line goes east over the Sierra but a branch line turns to the north. It is known as the Highline. It follows Indian Creek to the north. It passes by Crescent Mills and Lake Almanor.
We're camping in Taylorsville, 5 miles east of the Highline tracks. Taylorsville has a great market with high quality meats, home-made hamburger, sandwiches, ice, and other grocery items. The Taylorsville campground is a half-mile east of town, along Indian Creek. There is patchy cell service in the campground (Verizon is the best). Bring your bike to ride into town!
For those of you familiar with Hallsted Campground (TrainSpotting)-Taylorsville is about 17 miles to the north.
No reservations needed. There's plenty of room. It's an open, grassy campground with nice tree cover and next to a creek. Creek is suitable for dog-splashing but not swimming. Sites are casual, not highly defined. No electric. Modern bathrooms with flush toilets and showers which require quarters. $14/night. If we get a large response, I will ask the camp host to save us some sites.
Really great to see everyone! One of my favorite drives. I stopped at the Twain store on the way out for some ice and boy did I score - biscuits and gravy with an egg on top for breakfast. I highly recommend for those of you traveling through the area the next time.
Look forward to seeing most of you at Thanksgiving.
