PLEASE NOTE: CAMPGROUND HAS NO MORE RESERVATIONS AVAILABLE as of August 28.
Not too far from Yosemite is the Summerdale Campground in the Sierra National Forest. Crowds should be gone, weather cooling. The campground features campsites surrounding a meadow at about 5,000'. Look at the pictures of the sites and the driveway lengths as you choose your campsites, not all will accommodate 2 busses. The campground is east of Merced, off Highway 41 in Fish Camp, about 188 miles from Sacramento and 166 miles from Livermore. This is not an organized event. You are on your own to figure it out and what to do, but below is useful information. The entrance to Yosemite is quite nearby.
This is the link to the campground:
The Yosemite Sugar Pine Railroad is nearby and runs a steam engine excursion train.
Nelder Grove is also in the vicinity, offering the opportunity to walk among giant sequoias without the crowds of Mariposa Grove in Yosemite.
Just booked 21.
Laura, that is so awesome! Happy Dance!
I'm in 24. And if the weather is under 80 degrees, I may even have Debra with me.
Just saw this after talking to Laura today. No idea yet if we'll make it but at least it's on my radar :)
Camper Site List as of June 28. We own that end of the campground. Nice job everyone! Will this be Bruce's debut in his, ahem, VW camper alternative?

Did Joe Ehrlich get missed in the shout-out for this event? When I talked to him today, he didn't seem to know about it.
He's on the did not respond yet list...
Thanks for the head's up, John. I have re-sent an invitation to a few delinquents. Peter and Regis have not updated their status, for example (of private shaming).
Does anyone care if I make this public now, rather than private? We have booked us some solid real estate.
That would be fine, as long as we've given the latecomers on the invite list enough time to respond.
Is there a handle yet on whether they'll allow fires? And, if so, is firewood available on site?
