Train Spotting will return in 2013. We will be going back to the Feather River Canyon-Hallsted Campground in the Plumas National Forest. Hallsted has been refurbished and "improved" with new bathrooms with showers (!), a second path to the river, 7 sites now have electric hookups, sites are shifted around, there are new site furnishings, etc. There is also one pull-through site for a large RV. It sounds really nice but will be different from the forgotten little campground we are used to. Reservations now available at:
http://www.recreation.gov/welcome.do
The Historic Feather River railroad route runs on the opposite side of the river from the campground. Trains climb and descend the grade at all hours-you will be falling asleep to the rumble of the diesel engines and the squeal of steel wheels on the tracks. If you have never driven through the Feather River Canyon, it is a natural and cultural resource treat!

We'll also bring Waldor Salad (fruit, walnuts & yogart-chilled)
I just spoke to the nice folks at the Twain General Store and they assured me they would have plenty of ice for sale this weekend. And beer, ice cream bars, firewood and a few other sundries. If I recall correctly, they have an interesting beer selection. It is going to be hot, so it is nice to know you can walk from the campground 1/4 mile on a trail through the woods to stock up on necessities.
Sorry to say but due to personal reasons I can not make it this weekend. Feel free to use site 3. its paid for Friday and Saturday. Have fun and see some of you at High Sierra.
Really sorry to hear that, Brett. We will miss you. Maybe we'll move the potluck down to Site 3, I think it is very shady at that end of the campground.
OK. Second try. Dislexia ro something.
I also missed GTG's due to life stuff. We'll tip a tasty beverage your way. You'll feel it.
It's already hot out there. I tried to book tonight so I could arrive anytime tomorrow but was too late for online res's. I see thunder clouds off to the east.
Just came from the store with four or five sausage packages, buns, chips, salsa and some cheese.
See yins there. I think the Weekie will make it.
Regis-I doubt they'll ding you for showing up early-there won't be anybody there. We hope to arrive by noonish, 1:00 at the latest. The good news is that the forecast high temps have come down a bit.
Well it turns out there might be a chance I could show up on Saturday. If I am not there by 2 then I wont be. Really want to come!!!
We'll be headed out mid day tomorrow. Hope to be there by dinner time!
