VW Camper Family

A camping forum for VW bus and camper owners.

Okay - I'm very interested in having some events at this year's Bus City campout, but am very lazy when camping out and like to drink beer and relax. So, I'm curious what fun things have worked at campouts in the past.

I know Maupin does a beer exchange/tasting. That seems fun.

The walking tour of buses we did at Fall Finnon Fest last year was fun.

The potluck at Thanksgiving we did was awesome.

Anyone else have a good suggestion? Aside from pulling up a lawn chair to watching some sucker try to replace something on his bus?

Potluck, definitely. Thanksgiving was amazing; I haven't eaten that well in a long time. Maybe a chili cookout? Although I can't cook...

How many brewers do we have in the group? (Jenn and I have been on the lookout for equipment to get started, but nothing yet.)

And what's wrong with watching some sucker trying to replace something on his bus? That usually turns into a group effort anyhow ;-).

Especially when it's Peter!
I like the drinking beer part;)
Someone suggested we all get lawn ornaments for this event. We've never done a chili cook-off kind of thing...will we have electric hookups at our sites?

Bocce ball and beers - always fun...
Gypsie (from Portland) had a parts quiz last year at Maupin that was fun. Just a bunch of more or less recognizable VW parts on a board and you were to say what you thought they were. I won a temperature sensor for my score.
Halloween Theme. Everyone dresses up their buses and themselves. Best decorated bus wins prize, best couple etc...
One year here in Canada there was a bus wrapped up like a wonderbread loaf of bread, also pirate ship, chicken, Mardigra Mask........ lots of great ideas.

Have a tie dye station
set up with different dyes, Rubber bands, Buckets etc.. and have sessions of tye dying. adults and kids have fun tye dying everything from socks, tees and sheets!

Bocce Ball Tournament

Remote Control car Contest
Everyone has a remote control car. We went to a camp out and there were lots of bus and bug remote control cars. that was fun. Kids and adults had a blast.

Potluck
one evening Everyone contributes 1 thing to dinner. everyone gets together and enjoys the company and food.
Some of the things we've seen (mostly with Buses by the Beach but also at Buses of the Corn):
* Chilli Cook off
*Beer tasting
*Bocce Ball tournament
*Frisbee golf tournament
*Bus driving challenge
*Many community meals
*Halloween theme (big fun)
*General door prizes (furthest traveled, nicest bus, most in need of restoration etc)
*Group Tye-Dye
*Of course music is always a big hit too - have been at several events where there were bands.

The list really could go on and on. Someone mentioned homebrewing - I often thought it would be fun to do a group brew at an event.
Awesome ideas all! Thanks for sharing.
