The big #10! Who'd have thought we'd be doing it this long...
We are going back to Sandy Beach in Rio Vista, CA. This is our annual practice run and food fest before Thanksgiving. Reserve sites soon as they may go fast if the sport fishermen/women come back this year.
Party Central will be back at site #4. Bring food, wine, and wood (although wood may also be available on-site).
For air quality updates, see the link below. It looks like it will improve somewhat Saturday-Sunday.
Always late, but never absent! Not sure what site we're in, but Hanna, Delaneh, Twill, and I (Brett) will be up there sometime this weekend. We will definitely be up there early enough to spend some quality time with our trusty old cast iron before the feast Saturday evening. We'll probably bring the usual.
Can't wait to see you all!
Looking for an update from the field. How are the smoke conditions at camp?
Current conditions: unhealthy for all in Rio Vista. Forecast in my comment above.
Corey, Richard the Brit, Sophie and I are still planning on attending and we will bring masks for ourselves. (Their masks are the approved N95 ones, mine is a Ninja Turtle mask that I got at the Halloween store)
The smoke should be somewhat better on Friday, so say the pronistigators.
What about a campfire? Yes, it is a "Spare The Air" day, but gee whiz. We will bring firewood anyway. It's not like a little more smoke will make any difference...
I'm bringing three boxes of scrap wood left over from various projects. It's all dry, dry, dry, and should burn cleanly.
PM 2.5 count is expected to be 169 in Yolo/Solano Counties, ank keep dropping slowly over the weekend. But all depends on how much wind there is to get the air mixing again, and of course fire control in the affected areas. Let's hope for the best.
The Perssons are not coming, but their site #25 is available to anyone who wants it.
The bird is prepped and marinating. I'm not sure exactly when the bird will arrive, it depends on the AQI readings. It is a very delicate fowl.
Handsome, though it is all brine, no brains.
Update: according to the Clear the Air site, The air quality index for Yolo-Solano counties should be under 100 by Saturday:
http://www.sparetheair.com/forecast.cfm
In fact, it might be the cleanest air around.
I'll be heading for the site in about two hours. Cell phone is 916-871-6637 if you need me.
