Event Description

THIS CAMPOUT HAS BEEN CANCELLED as of 8/28/12

Lawson’s Landing is a fishing and boating resort and campground, situated at the mouth of Tomales Bay, California— known for generations of families as a place to escape the heat and to rest along the shores of the Pacific Ocean.

Camping is in meadows surrounded by sand dunes (and often cows) with the Pacific Ocean and Tomales Bay a short walk away. Camping is $30 a night. Reservations can be made online.

Please note the gate hours, they close at 10pm & 11pm on Fri & Sat respectively. We will be arriving early Friday and block off an area big enough for us all.

I'm not excited about camping in a gravel parking lot (area W). Area V may be OK, but the views will be all trailers. Maybe we should do a roll call to see who has made reservations so far. The only reservations I'm aware of are Mike and myself.

The EPA took away Lawson's Landings use of the grass fields during the wet season. That starts on Sept. 3rd.

Comment by Blake on August 27, 2012 at 1:57pm: Melissa, I agree with you. I think that we should cancel this campout. Lawsons landing will let you reschedule your reservations, you just have to call to do it. Please chime in with your opinion.

Comment by Mike Fernandez on August 27, 2012 at 4:13pm: I think it is up to up to you to cancel or not. I think I will still go anyway since I have made reservations. I don't think it will be much different then any other camp out with individual spots. I would be nice if they would put us all next to each other.

Comment by Steve, Toni on August 27, 2012 at 10:16pm: Hi everyone, just got back into town and read the posts. We have been to Lawson's a lot and am sorry about what is available. It's not their fault, the Coastal Commission is basically trying to shut them down.

Regarding wind: almost all of Lawson's is windy when there is wind. Area W is basically a parking lot, but there are places we could all be together. We've camped near V, but it will fill up first because of high demand on weekends.

Just read that rescheduled reservations need to be used within 6 months. But these people are a family business and might be reasonable if we explain the situation.

With all that said, we could be up for the adventure in either area, especially if others with reservations are going to be required to use them.

If you have, it might be worth it to see if we can re-schedule it for a time when the other camping areas will re-open. I wouldn't mind going there sometime in the spring. It's got to be better than Sugarloaf Ridge...

Any word from them on when the other sites will be available, Blake?
