VW Camper Family

A camping forum for VW bus and camper owners.

Hey crew,

We haven't seen or talked to anyone in several months.  I finally have my 74 westy running very well - thanks to Regis' recommendations for a SVDA distributor.  It made a world of difference.  I recommend it to anyone who is running a 009.

We have added a new member to the family.  Kim now has her very own '71 squareback.  At first I was hesitant to buy anything other than a bus, but this thing is very fun.  I've learned all about fuel injection.  I hate to say it, but it is so much easier and smoother than carbs.

We want to hit a camping event soon, so we'll be trolling the site for a good weekend.  On a side note, we have some friends who have a winery/vinyard in Healdsburg and will be helping them out for the first couple of weekends in March for "barrel weekends."  Anyone who has a lot of wine drinking friends (all of you winos), will be interested in a new concept for buying large quantities of wine at a huge discount.  Let me know if you want to hear more.  I'm thinking that a big VW camper family bottling session (with our own labels) would be a blast.  Brett - I'm sure you could design a great label.

Anyone going to two day town?

Great idea, Aaron! I'd be up for participating in bottling some wine. We could label it for events like Bus City or Train Spotting or just make a general VW Camper Family label. Fun times, let's get started.
Okay here's the deal with the wine. My friends are selling entire barrels at a discount. A barrel = 24.5 cases of wine or 294 bottles. Depending on the varietal, the prices are between $2500 - $2900/barrel. This means the price of each bottle is somewhere between $7-$10. Most of their wines usually sell for $25 - $30/bottle at their tasting room or vineyard. Significant savings. The barrels will be ready for bottling in about 3 months. At that point we could go and bottle it and label it ourselves. It would make a great day trip to the wine country. Kids are welcome and the bottles and labels are free. We would have to put 1/2 down and the balance when we bottle it. The name of the winery is Christie Vineyards. Here is the link: Check it out and tell me if anyone is still interested.

Missed you, Aaron. Glad you're back. I'm down for you camping with us and doing something with wine. It would be good to do a VW Camper Blend. Perhaps a VW Campernet?
Yes, Regis. That's the place.

Sounds like a really cool idea! It's too bad we're fukenbröke, but it would be fun to see done anyway...
If we can't get the money together for an entire barrel, I could probably arrange for a few of us to go up and help him do some work at the vineyard (picking grapes, bottling, general labor, etc. I'll bet he'd kick down some wine if we provided some good old fashioned elbow grease. There is plenty of room to camp there as well. It's a really cool place. Let me know and I'll set something up.

Some names to consider: Pop Top Pino, Westfailia White, Riviera Red, Rusty Bus Red, Camper Family Cabernet
I can only go in for 10 bottles, $70-$100. Not a good year for me to be investing in wine, sadly.

That sounds like a good idea. Camp, do some work, get some wine, enjoy. When would/could this all happen?
