Mattress Covers

I'd like to keep my mattresses in good shape. Have any of you considered making custom mattress covers?  If the baby ends up sleeping with us, I'd like to have incontinence fabric built in to the covers.  Thoughts?

We got a protective mattress cover at a large department store in the mattress department and it works great. Unfortunately I don't know the manufacturer name, but if you get a small size (twin, etc.) you can either tuck the edges around underneath, or just tailor it like a regular sheet set, to get it to fit the unusual shape of the Westy lower bed. I can't tell it's there at all and it's held up well for 2 years so far. I think it was Macy's where I found this one, but other stores might also carry them.
