Did you rebuild the short block yourself? I have the ceramic coated version of that header. The ceramic muffler has held up for a while but the material is coming off of the header. If you still have the engine out, now would be a good time to convert the exhaust donut gaskets to flanges. Just make sure they clear the mustache bar. This will save you from having to replace the gaskets on a pretty regular basis if you want to keep it quite.

Is this your first vw? I'm not sure how much mechanical stuff you already know.

Your engine looks good.

Thanks Doug. She's not my 1st VW but is by far the one I've taken down the farthest. I didn't need to rebuilt the motor since it only had about 15k on a fresh rebuilt back in '84 according to my uncle. So I just tore it down, cleaned it up and replaced all the gaskets and the exhaust. I'm on a fairly tight budget and am just looking for a "user" not a show bus, so some of the stuff will need to be revisited with 3 to 5 years I'm thinking.
