That the way the bays were made until, I think, 73. Then they turned them around to face forward and they have been that way every since. Of course this is only for the ones made by Westfalia

'74 was the first year for rear-hinged Westy poptops. Urban legend holds it was changed because too many people were driving around with the top popped, and switching it made it more obvious that you shouldn't do that. I don't buy it though; I'm pretty sure it was a space thing (you can sleep two adults upstairs in '74 and later Westies).
