Event Description

THIS CAMPOUT HAS BEEN CANCELLED as of 8/28/12

Lawson’s Landing is a fishing and boating resort and campground, situated at the mouth of Tomales Bay, California— known for generations of families as a place to escape the heat and to rest along the shores of the Pacific Ocean.

Camping is in meadows surrounded by sand dunes (and often cows) with the Pacific Ocean and Tomales Bay a short walk away.  Camping is $30 a night. Reservations can be made online.

Please note the gate hours, they close at 10pm & 11pm on Fri & Sat respectively. We will be arriving early Friday and block off an area big enough for us all.

I have been watching the Lawson's Landing/Dillon Beach controversy, but I am so happy to see that we can, at least, camp in numbered spots in the meadow. I hope we can get there!

Shari, Last year we were still able to do general camping in the field, not marked spots. I'm assuming that it's still the same. Have you heard something different? -Blake

Under "Rules" and "News" on the Lawson's Landing link, it talks about numbered grassy meadow sites (sites were only at the sea wall until recently). Preregistration on-line, etc. "Save Lawson's Landing" has a facebook page. Gone are the days of freedom, but I'm so glad they were able to make a deal and keep the camping available.

I will sign up as maybe given my sick cat situation. I'll be interested to see what the new camping arrangements are. It may avoid the neighbors parked on top of us syndrome.

Last year we camped in Section P on the map in this link.

It sounds like they have added numbered sites. It will be interesting to see how they do that in a open meadow. I'll try to call and have them describe the layout.

I called the campground today. They said you can only make reservations 30 days in advance. So we should be able to book online or over the phone after August 15th. She told me that everything on the East (left) side of the road as you come in is closed. There is no more meadow camping. They will assign us spots as we come in. They have somehow marked the fields with markers that we need to camp between. They said that if we all come in at the same time we will be able to group us together. Otherwise they can't guarantee that we will be together. They assign the spots at the front gate as we show up.

Using this map http://www.lawsonslanding.com/UPDATES/NEWS.aspx  the areas we will be camping in are N, M, V, & W. This arrangement is very different than last year and not really what I expected. Right now we will just make the most of it and see how it turns out.  -Blake

With the 'slot camping' arrangement, will there be firepits? If not, will they allow us to use my nifty firepit which doubles as a grill?  I'd be happy to bring it, along with the Tent of Doom.

Coast looks clear. Looking forward to those grilled oysters!

John, they have fire pits there, you are more than welcome to bring yours.

Hi Everyone,  my wife Toni and I are new to the VWCF and this will be our first event.  We have camped at Lawson's many times and even though they have been forced to change the way they run their campground, it is still a cool place to be.  We are attending the Lazy Summer Daze Fest in Pinecrest in a couple of weeks, but we also plan to check out Lawson's at least once before September 14th.

If there is anything we can do to help out, let us know.

Looking forward to meeting you all!

(P.S. John,  Toni wants to know what the "Tent of Doom" is.  I told her  it might be better to be surprised)  ;-)
