Train Spotting will return in 2013. We will be going back to the Feather River Canyon-Hallsted Campground in the Plumas National Forest. Hallsted has been refurbished and "improved" with new bathrooms with showers (!), a second path to the river, 7 sites now have electric hookups, sites are shifted around, there are new site furnishings, etc. There is also one pull-through site for a large RV. It sounds really nice but will be different from the forgotten little campground we are used to. Reservations now available at:
http://www.recreation.gov/welcome.do
The Historic Feather River railroad route runs on the opposite side of the river from the campground. Trains climb and descend the grade at all hours-you will be falling asleep to the rumble of the diesel engines and the squeal of steel wheels on the tracks. If you have never driven through the Feather River Canyon, it is a natural and cultural resource treat!

Glad to hear that, Bill! There's always free NFS land nearby (over by the Twain Store and Campground) if no shares are available. But I think there are several available.
Bill, you may have half of # 18.
Potluck: so far, we have: Three rice or chili, Pork chili verde, Cowboy pozole (chili-like), cupcakes and pie. It sounds like we have a chili cook-off and dessert bar.
#4 is one of us!! Rick Mahan will be coming up Friday some time. We are going to try to leave Friday afternoon. I did say try... If not Friday then we will see you all Saturday.
Very much looking forward to Train Spotting!!
Might have room in #3. just waiting to hear from someone
It's gonna be a warm one.
Half of #15 is open. What time is check-in?
You can check in anytime you like, but you can never leave.
I think I'll bring a pasta/veggie salad.
We are doing a Salad this year.
I have the Eagles are stuck in my head now... Thanks Melissa :)
I'm bringing an appetite. Plus the gratuitous muchie items. Kinda in a sausage mood.
Did some last minute maintenance. Should be good to go. Gas and a bath and we're on da road.
I'm planning on playing hooky from work on Friday ( cough, cough ). Prolly gonna leave the house at normal work time and head on up. I'd like to take advantage of the cooler morning air. Mostly for me and not so much for the Weekie. Should be there by noon pending any side trips.
Anyone bringing a fishing rod? Maybe a kayak or tube
