Event Description

For information on the Hallsted campground, the recreation.gov link is below:

Hallsted Campground

The Historic Feather River Railroad route runs on the opposite side of the river from the campground. Trains climb and descend the grade at all hours-you will be falling asleep to the rumble of the diesel engines and the squeal of steel wheels on the tracks. If you have never driven through the Feather River Canyon, it is a real treat!

Those looking for hot springs can find them a couple miles up the road. Formerly known as "Woody's", they are now associated with an RV and cabin establishment. I think you need to call ahead and there is a $5 fee. Details here:

The Twain Store is walking distance from the campground and has ice, ice cream, deli items, beer and more. The camp host will have firewood for sale. It is customary for us to have a group potluck dinner on Saturday -TBD.

Hi all, I thought I had left a comment that I was in spot 12. Willing to share if site will accommodate two vans. I missed last year, turns out I blew a head gasket on the way up.

How's the campsite itself doing? Has it been getting flooded by the river?

Comment by westywoman (Melissa) on February 26, 2017 at 11:07am

Who knows, John. Highway 70 has been closed in that area due to a huge slide. Even the trains aren't getting through yet, either. Here's CalTrans update this morning:

HWY 70 IS CLOSED FROM JARBO GAP (BUTTE CO) TO THE JCT OF SR 89 /GREENVILLE WYE/ (PLUMAS CO) - DUE TO FLOODING - MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO USE AN ALTERNATE ROUTE

TRACTOR-SEMITRAILER COMBINATIONS OVER 65 FEET & ALL TRACTOR-SEMITRAILER COMBINATIONS /DOUBLES/ OVER 75 FEET IN TOTAL LENGTH ARE PROHIBITED FROM 13 MI EAST OF THE JCT OF SR 191 TO THE NORTH JCT OF SR 89 /GREENVILLE WYE/ (PLUMAS CO) - ALTERNATE ROUTES ARE AVAILABLE.

Garbo Gap is just northeast of Oroville. Basically the highway is closed from there to the 89 wye.

I am bailing, will be out of the country... party on!

Well, they've got until June to get it all sorted out. I was wondering how the campground itself was doing, and whether there'll be much water damage. But, again, there's plenty of time for needed repairs.

Well, now, there's only one site left at this time. Almost booked up. Wow! I can't wait!
