Our annual escape from Superbowl Madness. It will be our usual set-up .... wine, food, companionship (bring the wine and bring or buy the wood). Also, musical instruments are welcome, and maybe we can jam a little.
Friday night is pizza night ... bring your little Coleman camp ovens or use ours, and make and bake an 8" pizza. (You provide ingredients, of course.)
BREAKING NEWS: the legendary 'Soup or Bowl' competition may not take place, because Joe and Corey will be moving to Southern California next month. We can still do the "Soup or Bowl" as a potluck. Or, if some volunteer wants to step up and run it, Joe can still provide the ribbons and such. If you're interested in being that person, let me know.
Party Central will be spot #4. As usual, it will be rain or shine, and if it's rainy, the Tent of Doom and the Annex of Despair will keep us all dry.
Three more things: Be aware that there are wild critters (raccoons, feral cats, etc.) that will go into any open camper that you're not around. So be sure to keep your doors closed.
Second, Brett made a little video about what kind of adapter you need if you want to use the AC outlets that are at every site (for free!). Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOF7aCUfwZ0
Third, the Solano County Parks reservation system is now reservation only, and the registration window closes two weeks before the event. So get your reservation in early!
I'm keeping it simple. Finger foods. Veggie tray, ranch, some cheeses, crackers, cookies.
Hello friends, I'm bringing lots of wood! I'm sharing a site with Gene:)
Diana
I'm bringing some wood, too. Nights will probably be chilly (around forty). Remember to bring your electric heaters... electricity is free here.
I'm in Site 20. I won't be there until Saturday afternoon.
I can share if anyone needs a spot.
Sorry about the late notice, the site is available starting Friday night.
Thanks
I hope everybody had a great time, despite the cold and the wind. We ended up burning all but two pieces of firewood.
One thing about Sandy Beach and Lake Solano that you might want to keep in mine: according to a park person I talked to, they no longer allow more than one electrical hookup per camp site. In other words, the second car can't run an extension cord from the electrical box. But he added that his supervisor told him to ignore that edict for us, since we're puny little vehicles that aren't going to run A/C or washing machines, so our demands on the electrical system are minimal. So just be aware that in the future, some park person might try to enforce the rule.
Neither site is likely to be selling firewood in the foreseeable future, since their source for firewood evidently took a hit in the last fire season.
That's really interesting John. I am glad this ranger/staff was able to make exceptions for the group. Thanks for making us aware.
Welp. That was interesting. Mother Nature strutting her stuff. No match, however, with a half acre of firewood. It was pretty much an all day fire on Saturday. I'm gonna have to source some pine to add to the almond. Food was excellent. People were excellent. Whats not to like.
I can understand where the park is coming from. But with the pedestals having one thirty amp outlet per site, the parks system isn't compromised.
