Engine Rebuild
Who wants to help me rebuild an engine? I have a 1600 core to work with that I haven't inspected yet. The goal is a 2007 cc using 90.5 cylinders and a 78 mm crank. Is there a good machine shop in the bay area for air cooled? Close to Alameda would be nice.

There's the Buggy House in Hayward on Mission Blvd (510) 582-7847. I go there all the time now; they're a good group of guys although I've never used their machining services.

Since I can't edit my original post it seems, I'll just add one thing. Go on Friday or Saturday when Sean is working. The other guy that works up front, Kevin, is a cool dude to talk to but I swear he has A.D.D. James, who works in the back, is super knowledgeable and I believe also the machinist.

Doesn't look like you can get emails when a new discussion is added (though I will continue to check it out) but you can control just about everything else under your "my page" tab. Then click on "settings" then on "email" You get this page:

I Checked Buggy House for their machining prices, according to Sean;
1. Machine for bigger bore $120
2. Drill and tab for full flow $60
3. Align Bore $60
4. Drill and tap for the rear three mounting bolts $100
That's $340 if I did everything. At a min. I would do the bigger bore and full flow for $180.
New cases start at $499 plus shipping.

I bought "The Red Book" and have been reading through it. I want to split the case on the old core soon.

Did you start ordering replacement parts yet?
They'll check your case at BH if it needs an align bore or not, but $60 isn't too bad if it's needed.

I haven't bought any new parts yet. I'm waiting to see what condition the core is in. Maybe the first thing I get will be a new case...
