VW Camper Family

A camping forum for VW bus and camper owners.

Hi Everyone!

What does the R stand for on the fuel gauge for a 1972 VW Campermobile? Does it mean reserve or empty?

Thank you!

I think it means "refill". Either way, it equals "empty".

Hi Big Blue!!!! I'm a fan of yours on facebook and you wrote back to me a few months ago about your website. Thank you for your reply. Have a great evening.

With all due respect to Big Blue's Driver, your first guess is correct: the 'R' stands for 'Reserve'. Or, in German, 'Reserve'. ('Refill' in German is 'nachfüllen'.) It means you'd better find a gas station before 20 miles passes beneath your wheels.

Hi whco3grady,

Thank you!!! The page you included is exactly what I was looking for!
