TRIP ACROSS AMERICA - ROUTE SUGGESTIONS

My wife and I are long-time VW Camper owners. In August, we are going to go from the Seattle area to Raleigh, NC, be on the East coast for three weeks and then come back to Seattle (leaving from Raleigh). I am hoping that someone in the VW Camper Family can suggest a good route (or two!) there and back that is not too heavy on the freeways and that would include fun and interesting things to do and see along the way. First attempt - VW Classic

I normally post on my own blog elementhis.blogspot.com. Here is my attempt to try and mirror the posts on this site:

I'm in L.A., I have been here for two weeks both moving my wife into her apartment for her internship, and attending E3. I was planning on being back in the bay area last week, but I was told that the VW Classic was last weekend, so I extended my stay.
