VW Camper Family

A camping forum for VW bus and camper owners.

So, i'm getting ready to leave on an epic 2 week camping trip, from SF to the San Juan islands. and i'm having difficulity finding Block ice. Finnaly found some after like 6 places but makes me think i'm going to have trouble finding it along the way.. 7-11 used to allways have it, but the two i went to did not, but they had a sign for it next to the bagged ice.

any ideas?

leaving tomarrow, and not sure how much internet acess i will have on the trip, so any fast advice would be great.

thanks

I might venture into a local grocery store instead of hitting the convenience stores - this way, you can stock up on fresh goodies along the way.

Raley's always has it, SaveMart too. The closest Raley's to San Francisco is on San Pablo Dam Rd. in El Sobrante, not far from the I-80 freeway. The nice thing about block ice is that it lasts two days during the summer, whereas cube ice lasts only a day.  Once you get up to Washington, Fred Meyer's has it.

Sweet!!

Fred Meyers and Raleys it is!!

check on fish houses or bait shops.
That's really weird. Most gas stations or truck stops you can't can't to like a fancy grocery store. Good old fashion truck stop should stet you up. You should think about dry ice. If your cooler is capable. You put it ins cardboard box so you don't burn your self. Happy camping
x2 on the dry ice.  Colder (lots), lasts longer, no clean up. More expensive though.
Have to laugh, I bought a chunck of dry ice (1 lb) to ship some fish to Michigan, by the time I was ready to ship the bag was empty - it disappeared in the freezer.
Probably because you're not supposed to store dry ice in the freezer. The air circulation makes it sublime more quickly.

I knocked on their door, but they said that they only had cubed ice available.
