VW Camper Family

A camping forum for VW bus and camper owners.

Hello.....my wife Wendy and I are in the planning stages of a trip down the Oregon coast line from British Columbia, and I am wondering if anyone knows of any VW events from Washington to northern California for the first two weeks of Sept./2014. Also wondering about camping spots and how available they would be during this time period. Have any of you done this trip and can maybe help us out with any nice spots to visit and such? We have never been down that way and are looking forward to the adventure. Thanks to all for your thoughts....Wayne Keiver.

We just returned from a beautiful two weeks down the Oregon Coast, coming from Squamish. Have a look at my blog, there are a few details about our trip and on the 'route' page a map. We did the long way through Whidbey to avoid any time on the I5. Send me a message if you have any specific questions, it was an amazing trip: really stunning drive, great small towns, great camping, great beaches, great surfing . . .

Thanks Jess, for the great reply. In fact, we lived in Squamish some years back for about 8 years or so. We are also thinking of popping in there on our way back from this trip to see a couple friends and would stop by to say Hello if you were around. It looks like a great trip and I love the blog. The pics are nice too....makes us want to leave now....but Gertie is parked for the winter so all I can do is pop out to see her, do some refurbishing on her, and dream of trips to come. I know all who get that will understand.  Thank you again....Wayne.

Hi Wayne: Thanks for the comment on the blog, make sure you 'follow' to receive notifications of new posts. We will be making quite a few small trips before the big one to Europe . . . and there will be lots of tinkering-I totally understand!!! We would love to have you for a beer or just a visit when you guys come through Squamish. As you know, there are lots of beautiful places to hang by the river and relax. Have fun planning the trip, let me know if there are any questions I could help with.

Hi VWers.  We are the newest members of the VW Camper Family me thinks.  Paul and Margo here.  The Munsons.  New to VW camping since we purchased a 2002 Eurovan Camper.  Before and since, we have travelled much of Washington, Oregon, BC, Alaska, and parts of Idaho and Montana.  We are retired teachers, cyclists, gardeners, knitter, and travelers.  We have a big gig for September in Oceanside the 23rd thru Oct. 6, 2014.  What we do, when we do, how we do getting there and returning is yet to be determined.  Yada Yada Yada.  We have done the pacific coast a couple of times south to Carmel.  No further.  Starting at the BC border, some of the high points are the San Juan Islands and its ferries.  Next comes the Olympic Peninsula, Olympic National Park, Sol Duc Hot Springs, Greys Harbor (Ocean Shores/Westport), Long Beach Peninsula, Fort Canby, Astoria, Fort Clatsop, Fort Stevens, Cannon Beach, and on and on down the Oregon Coast.  Google all of these for details.  As for VW gatherings, I know little at this point.  We could do some of the northern parts together.

Hello Munsons....thank you for your reply. As you can tell we have lots of time to plan this trip, but as always, part of the plan will include no real plans at all. We are hoping to just take our time and stop where and when we please. The only real part of the plan so far is, we or I should say I really want to see the XXX Root Beer Drive in, and  possibly a stop at Dosewallips State Park on Aug.30th to spend a night with the WetWesties group that will be camping there. We don't know any of these folks but like all VW owners, I am betting this will be a fantastic start to our trip. Then we will be off to see the coastline on the Sunday. It would be fun to see you guys somewhere along the way, and we will be in touch as we get closer to our trip time.
