VW Camper Family

A camping forum for VW bus and camper owners.

Hi guys,

me and my girlfriend (long-time camping fans, we own severals campers in the Czech Republic) are planning to travel around Cali and Arizona the whole July. We are living in San Fran and Seattle this spring and summer, I work and she studies. We’re looking for a van/bus/camper to rent to drive with and sleep in, ideally with a camper conversion but not really necessary... We can pay about a $1k for the months rent. And give your van incredible love it deserves. Anything helps! Can’t afford commercial vans for $100+ a day. Thanks!

Hi Martin,

I don't know of anyone who will rent their VW to you, however I was doing some research and found a few websites that rent them. I found one that is in Seattle and although you have $1000.00 per month, the closest I could find was $99.00 per day. It was the least pricey. Just a thought in case you wanted to pick it up in Seattle and drive it through California and Arizona. Here's the link: http://www.westfaliarentals.com/flash/locations.html

The other locations were a lot more money per day. I hope this helps. Maybe they'll cut you a deal if you contact them. Good luck on your search.

Hi Angie,

thanks for you tip, I think still way out of what any travelling student can afford. Asking $3000 a month for a 25 yr old van when you can rent a normal car for ten times less seems outrageous to me.

Luckily I managed to get 86 Vanagon Westfalia borrowed from a friend for two months for less than thousand bucks and working on it few days to get it in shape. In Seattle as well actually :) Just finished last works on it today and will be heading to Cali next week :)

Have a great time! I'm glad you found what you needed! Enjoy!
