Event Description

Time to camp in the "Valley of the Moon" in Sonoma. Or if you wish, continue celebrating St. Patty's Day at Sugar Loaf Ridge State Park. It will be a full moon that weekend and spring will be in the air! The campground is set amongst grasslands and oaks. There are many hikes in the area. One short hike leads to a waterfall. A creek runs through the campground with a large field inside the main loop. There are wineries nearby to explore.
There will be the traditional Saturday night potluck, so bring some chow, and of course the requisite wine and firewood!

Hey Ralph, that place looks great! Do you have a favorite site or location? What about that loop 24-28 for starters? The booking window for March opens up September 1. Reservation are available March 15-October 31, otherwise it's first-come, first served. I suggest interested campers put it on their calendars to check back for reservations in September.

Agreed. 24-28 looks like the good stuff. Should we go for that?

Reservations are now available. I booked a site. Reservations are not site-specific, they are assigned upon arrival. Looking forward to seeing this park!

I camped in spot 15 last week. Nice, but very breezy in the morning (uncomfortably so).

I agree that spots 24-28 look ideal, but if we can't reserve them, it might be hard to put dibs on them.

I didn't look at the group site, but it looks like it might be doable ... and at $30.00 per night, the $165 per night would force a break-even of 12 buses (sharing six slots), so unless you get that many buses, the group site wouldn't be the better deal monetarily. (There was an extra vehicle fee, but I can't remember what it was. If it's a lot, that would bring the bus breakeven point down to maybe ten buses.)

I think you chose the coldest night of the fall so far to camp! Hope you and your sister stayed warm! Thanks for the report.

If I remember correctly, the Group camp is kinda a boring corral area next to a gravel parking lot. Not sure if I'm remembering it exactly though. I'd prefer to camp in the regular campground.
